Has anyone dismantled the door on a B680, or similar, to replace a latch spring? Did you manage to find a supplier?

What age is your Hymer and what spring.
The spring that make the lock click when you lock it (if that make sense) has gone in mine and I have one on order at Travelworld and will be collecting it on the 10th April, not sure if it’s the correct spring until I fit it.

Registered 2014. Its the coil spring of the door latch and returns it to the ready to close position. Just wrapped an elastic band around it, works much better so I think this spring has been broken for a long time. And thanks for the reply. Have you a part number?

This is the spring that’s gone in mine, I think that part number in the bottom photo is for the whole lock.

Just my luck not the same, but thanks for trying. When they send you the wrong spring it will probably fit mine!

Hiya Manic and all...

Hopefully your still around and on this site

I appreciate this is a comment on a very old thread BUT this is exactly the information that I have been searching for
I have the same issue, the spring snapped and I'm struggling to find a replacement.
Can I ask if you were able to source the SPRING replacement instead of having to buy the lock?

Where were you able to source your fix from ??

I'm struggling to find a hymer part dealer who can source this...

Any assistance from anyone will be greatly appreciated....

ALSO... as in searching for solutions... some are suggesting using an elastic band -- how is this going to work? as I can not see an elastic band going through the spring holes! Would I leave the 'broken spring' in place and wrap the band around this (when through the other hole)? Just doesn't seem right.... any thoughts....

Thanks

Elmer

I’ve never tried this but know how next to impossible it can be to source a particular spring. There are quite a few videos on YouTube entitled ‘make your own springs’ ‘make springs at home’ etc and it looks fairly straightforward once you’ve sourced the correct thickness wire (eBay)

Darren at Brownhills is very knowledgeable about Hymer parts. Might be cheaper then Travelworld although you would hope that even a Hymer spring won't be that expensive!

Spring failure on Hymer hab doors is a VERY common problem.

They seem to only have about a 3 year lifespan.
Many owners carry a couple of spares.

If you go onto the 'Hymer Owner Group' (HOGS) on facebook which has over 10,000 Hymer owners as members and do a search for 'hab door springs' you will find a wealth of info, including suppliers

The Springs on our 2017 MLI 630 Hab door failed!

£30 for a replacement set or £130 for a complete mechanism - we went for the overkill option of the complete mechanism and, thanks to sterling service from Sam at Travelworld, I picked up the part yesterday.

However, not so impressed with their Service department who quoted £161 and a 6 weeks wait to fit it.

6 screws (should be 7 but only 6 fitted during original manufacture) took me 20 mins and job done!

If anyone wants the old handle (last picture) for spares, let me know.

Same problem, same MLI nearly, how do you access it to be able to replace the spring to pull the black bit in?

Matthew Cushing is the resident expert on Hymer door springs.
He has commissioned a spring manufacturer to make sets for most Hymer doors.
He sells them via Facebook marketplace and EBay.
(A real super niche market!)
