Hi, don't be tempted to use the drive over and pay later on line if you have a private HGV classed (over 3500kg) MH or you will find you will get charged £4, we normally drive through and pay later if in car to beat the queues and it's just £1.50, been over in MH a few times in no rush and the nice operated in the booths just assume we are under 3500 kg and charge us £1.50 - every little helps

We are 5.3 tonnes and 7.6 metres and pay the £1.50 (actually less as now have an account covering each vehicle)

If you drive over and decide not to stop at the pay booth because it’s busy make sure that you log on to the bridge website after a couple of days and pay the £1.50.
I forgot and when I did remember 3 weeks later I had to pay £31.50.

I seem to recall that when we came back home in May this year there was a warning NOT to use the TAG lane to avoid the pay booths so it maybe that this is no longer permitted, especially if you are doing it to 'cheat' rather than by accident (ie more than once).

Trouble is you need a tag for each vehicle you'll likely drive over the bridge so in our case it would be the car and MH so minimum £15 credit for the account plus 2 x £15 deposit for each tag = £45.

My point was that if you were tempted to drive through and pay online instead of the booth operator thinking you were just a 3500kg motorhome the folks in the office will look up you MH and decided to do you for £4

They (I think) stopped doing the actual tags and do it all on ANPR nowadays. We paid for 3 (2 cars and the van) but very pleased with the ease of use. We do venture north of the bridge with some trepidation though…….

I started to do an application and added 2 vehicles and at the end it gave the price for 2 tags so I've no idea, I didn't bother actually finalising it as we rarely go across in the car and the MH is likely to only do two return crossing a year max.

My technician took her daughter to Hull University from Norfolk. She objected to paying the toll so decided to return a different route. Unfortunately she failed to spot the junction for the A1 and continued on the M62 to Leeds, then M1 past Sheffield to Nottingham and eventually home via Grantham.

After that she stuck to the Bridge!

Well well knowing what the M6 toll charges are like (eek) we were well impressed discovering the week before last that the Humber Bridge is so cheap plus the toll booth operators on it actually speak to you nicely and have time for a very little chat. So utterly alien compared to the M6 toll or the M25 QE Bridge or whatever it's called.

Scunthorpe dear duck, Scunthorpe is where I go sometimes, don't do Grimsby as the motorway surface is concrete for a long stretch so it's like driving on a cheese grater.

They have resurfaced some of it but we avoid it as well. We turn off at the Bridge junction and take the A18 past Tumbleweed international airport to Laceby

The first time we crossed the Humber bridge in the moho with car in tow they charged for both (around £7) ... I told the attendant we only wanted to cross the bridge, not buy it! His reply was to drive very slowly and get my monies worth of the views.

I have two tags on one account, with a credit level set at minimum £6, when it gets to £6 it automatically tops up from my card.

Whatever you do, avoid the Itchen Bridge in Southampton. They wanted £25 because I was more than 1.8m at the front axle!

Surely it's worth paying just so you can stop in Hull and soak up the beauty, take in some culture and experience the friendliness of the locals. (Avoid Hessle Road and Bransholme though  ).
You forgot Gipsyville and North Hull! :giggle:

Bloody hell. Cost me 11.80 on M6 toll back from Wales but who cares people waste more on fags and drink.
I now avoid it and travel at the right time … the Australian owners of the M6 making a mint out of its users .
