A few doors down from us, is a nice camper on the drive. Been there ages and never seems to move. Just checked the reg plate and the MOT expired November 2020.

They can't drive it here now legally and gonna be bloody expensive to get it back to the UK. So it might just sit on the drive and rot :(

An expensive garden ornament ?

Or they might just risk driving it back without an MOT ....

Maybe they took it down before lockdown and the mot run out before they could get it back 🤔

It's a grand on the ferry for a camper one way.
Hi.
Hire a trailer and suitable tow vehicle from a mate ?. There are car transport companies who, take a few back ( Spain/Portugal ),it may be put on as a part load ? However,if its a double decker,it cannot go on the bottom deck, unless on its own,so half a load lost and Top deck... That rules out coming under the low bridges at " Rouen "..... ;)

It is legally allowed to drive it to a prebooked test centre without a valid MOT. My motorhome MOT expired in March but i tested it for early May using this provision, then taxed it while it was parked up off the road immediately after testing OK.

That's certainly what I thought.

Perhaps they plan to try to register it in Spain / Lanzarote?

We're in Lanzarote.

Would it come up on ANPR on Spain/France systems… ?

I would have thought £500 would sort it as a lowloader backload at the drivers convenience..??

Bereavement / Ill health??

They were my thoughts.

Not from the Canary Islands.
I meant that an empty lo loader say delivering a plastic fantastic yacht (for instance) might pick it up as a back load...?

I know nothing about these things!

Agreed if a stand alone job the several grand. Van is devalued by 5k because of location and MOT imo.

We bought a Rio 340 2016 reg last September, very low mileage of 6,000. Cost £48,000.
Might be worth asking the owners if they want to sell and offer a price taking in to account mot and shipping costs. They are gorgeous motorhomes and the hatchback rare and brilliant

Because of the situation, the value is well south of £40k To get it transported and repatriated will be complicated by the length of time outside of the UK. It has technically been permanently exported according to the legal and tax system. Even putting it in for an MOT is a gamble that it won't raise red flags

One solution is to temporarily clone the van over in the UK getting Insurance, Tax and MOT. Then they would have a year to get it home

To get it re-registered in the UK you first have to have an MOT and insurance. then you need to submit all the relevant documentation about the vehicle. The old registration document might help a bit.

But all this thread assumes they want it back here, no evidence that they do.
Ask them they might be just on the point of selling.

I can't see any problem dvla probably don't even know it's not in the country, we have tractors that havnt been registered for years and it's just a matter of filling a form in.
In this case it's only two years , all you have to say is covid got in the way.

But selling an unregistered vehicle in a foreign country where it is illegal is no easy task. It can't get registered on Lanzarote (an island) and cannot legally transit Spain and France under it's own power to return to it's last registered country. It cannot be insured till legal and tax is probably due to reimport it
