Van life for 13 years
First week off grid and getting used to the new home and a new 15k propane bottle has been gobbled up !
Alde heating been on a couple of hours tops twice.
Gas burners and oven for cooking n brews.
And a dometic fridge freezer.
I am going to be guessing the fridge is the culprit.
Questions are
A is that the usual sort of rate for use and just stuck it up buttercup
B is there a better fridge system going?
Or C just unplug the fridge as living off grid as such for 13 years never had one.

Certainly fridges use a lot of gas if the weather's hot, which it isn't most places at the moment.
Your consumption seems excessive though, check for leaks, or perhaps your bottle wasn't full to start with.

We always found the gas heating to be expensive which is why we don’t use ours.
Hubby fitted a Diesel heater otherwise we are on EHU in the winter.
Diesel heater on last night and on now as we had ice on the inside of the windscreen this morning…..in Belgium!
The Dom fridge won’t have used all that much, they use a bit more in hot weather but it’s the heating that does the damage!

And like you have, in June getting a diesel heater fitted as back up.

Now we are wondering if it was a full un as told.
We shall see after getting a new one today.

Are you using Calor propane (red bottle)?
You mention "15Kg" which would be Butane (blue bottle) and probablly not very efficient in cold weather.

We go off grid as soon as we don't need heating, we use gas for the fridge and hot water and last summer we used one cylinder (6kg)

I disagree.. I think gas fridges are quite frugal on gas..
RMD 8555 (large 190ltr twin door fridge/freezer uses approx 380g/24hrs.

Once you get refillable you will be flying, Alde works much better and quicker on gas.

I stand corrected then.
It's my second thought after the heating, as never had one in 13 years off grid.
Thanks for them facts

On our current trip, the number of nights between Gaslow fill ups (we have a twin cylinder system but as soon as one is empty, we seek to fill that up within a few days) correlated with nights on EHU (typically 6A so not really adequate for heating) is as follows:

11, 4 nights on EHU, late Jan/early Feb, a number of nights we had icicles on the exterior

21, 13 nights on EHU, early Feb to late Feb, generally cold temperatures

35, 24 nights on EHU, late Feb through to early March

Throughout this period there have been numerous instances of inadvertently leaving the gas oven on after use! 🤦🏻

you are wrong in hot weather they use a lot more gas unless you have never been touring in a hot country they are designed to run 16 c below ambient temps & 38c last year in the alps everyone's fridge was working hard this how people get wrong information

I never said they did not use more gas in hot weather...
I said that IMV gas fridges are pretty frugal in gas usage and that the Dometic RMD 8555 uses on average 380g/24hrs.
For proof check Dometics own specification sheets for said model.

this how people get wrong information
Where would you therefore suggest one goes to for correct information if not the manufacturers own specifications???

That's almost exactly what our fridge uses in Benidorm, we get a months run time on 12,000 grams... Works out at exactly 31.6 days 👍

Well we shall see whats what as new bottle put on yesterday. Similar weather so of it does more than the one that was in it we may think it wasn't as full as was told.
Still pondering an underslung tank.
