We're hoping to head for the sun this winter and spend at least 3 months away. I've got to renew house insurance this week can anyone recommend an insurer please?

Not long enough!
If you're happy with your present insurers, ask if they will extended. Mine did for an extra premium.

Try camping and caravanning club you get up to 180 days but you need to join. No need for people to check every week either.

Very topical.....have been with Saga for years, my renewal recently came through and I could see that the underwriters had been changed.
Always allowed up to 60 days un-occupied in the T&C's, up to 90 days and give us a ring. Over the last 8 years I've always confirmed the up to 90 days with them before agreeing to the renewal, so I rang them up again, this time they wouldn't confirm that it would be ok, and that I'd have to ring back 28 days before setting off (usually 3 months wintering inSpain) and then they'd put it to the underwriters.
I wasn't happy with that, so asked for a manager to get involved. He was not prepared to alter Saga's stance, so I left it saying that I'd be phoning around for up to 90 days cover.
Rang C&CC...very similar cover to Saga, but up to 180 days away (with easily managed conditions) and about £50 cheaper (approx £260).
Rang Saga back to say that my insurance would be with others, and, this time, somehow, got straight through to their underwriters, the guy I spoke to said that I'd received very poor service earlier, and that the confirmation of a future extension away from home would've been a formality.
So, I'm with C&CC.

I thanks everyone. I have rung round or looked on line at all the ones you've suggested. So far CCC is looking good. Up to 180 days if a few conditions are met for winter time. £170.50 with legal cover. £152 without. Do you think legal cover is worth while?

When was the last time you needed legal cover? 5 years, 10 years.
When did you last need insurance?
I don't bother with either.
