Thought I would share this as it caused a very sharp intake of breath.

Swift 674 Motorhome 2020 on a Fiat Ducato 2.3 euro 6, first service (mileage just under 6,000)

Quote from Haynes in Maidstone: £575.44!!!

The labour alone was £250 + VAT
List of chargeable parts (+ VAT)
Oil filter £15 (fair)
Gasket £4 (fair)
Filtering element £47
Unspecified filter £56
Air filter £34
Brake fluid £10
Sundries £5
Oil £60 (fair)

I was in the motor trade for 12 years up until 2002, and it looks to me like they are quoting for a high mileage, major service, but even so, £250 for labour!

I will decline, not just on price but also because it seems to me that they haven’t got a clue.

Try Burgess in Sittingbourne, it's been taken over by Swale MOT now, they have been doing my vans for over 10 years now, can't remember how much a low mileage service is but it ain't what Haynes are quoting, I think around £300. Mines due in November and will be using them. I leave it with them and have their courtesy car while they do the service and MOT.

That was 22 years ago 😳 that's 5 hours labour it takes ages to take a filter out

Thanks Diablo.

I contacted Haynes for a comparative quote as being the first one I had no idea what to expect.
As it happens, I live less than 3 miles away from Wents, specialist Motorhome garage who fitted my self levelling and last year they said a first service was £280.

Brake fluid change after 2 years
When they do the brake fluid change do they do the comfortmatic clutch fluid too? Am I right thinking they’re on the same circuit or am I talking rubbish?

same reservoir but separate circuit so as long as the reservoir isn't allowed to empty during brake bleed the sillyspeed system shouldn't be affected.

These prices and comments are scarey

But I would like the “silly speed system” fluid changed at same time👍

Travelworld at Stafford gave me a price for a habitation service on our Hymer. It was 610.00 which was 380.00 dearer that the previous year. When I questioned the quote she said that they had increased their labour charges. The price did not include the Hymer damp check. I declined their offer and told them what I thought. A mobile technician is coming to me for 150.00 plus VAT which includes a damp check.

A local garage does my chassis service. He is a motorhome owner and know the score. Full service 280.00.

Just had our “more expensive to service” A class done this morning, yes brake fluid at 2 years and 14000 miles.

IVECO main dealer 👍

Just to add the technician guy was great and no complaints about access.

Had my first hab check done in Germany and about €160 so not bad considering what UK dealers seem to charge.
Back over to Germany for a service and second hab check this week different dealer so will see what they charge.

Brake fluid change after 2 years

It would be more than a tenner for brake fluid change.

I’m surprised it would need topping up.
Even when the pads are at life end I rarely top up as when you fit new pads you push the fluid back to the master cylinder.

Edit just read funfair post re brake fluid change at two year.

They must be using dot 3 at the factory if it needs changing at two years 🙄😊

I don’t think people appreciate how much it cost to run a garage.
The rent, rates and insurance are bad enough but the license they have to pay for all the diagnostic equipment to be up to date is very high then all the utility bills, I doubt if many garages are making a killing

its only a Ducato van
Hi.
It might only be a Ducato van to you,but MY ducato van/PVC is a " Sandpapered down " 1990 Renault Magnum "..... Well......Perhaps/maybe/nearly. Although it does have an Agricultural note from the exhaust... So Perhaps/Maybe/nearly ? :ROFLMAO: 🚛

The main stealers have all the fancy showrooms, secretaries, coffee machines etc etc.

That’s what your paying for 🙄
It certainly isn’t the grease monkeys wages, even if the call them technicians 😂

That's why I either do it myself or use my pet mechanic at £30 per hour .

I have a chap who is very reasonable but when you have vehicle’s with warranty on you have to go to thr main dealer☹️☹️

Some of the repair bills done under warranty on some cars I’ve had would make a grown man weep😁😁

I may have misremembered this, but I thought the EU stopped that main dealer thing. As long as the "workshop" is of a certain standard they can carry out work.

I could be wrong.

Aye I suppose that's one of the joys of buying new vehicles.

I've never done it

If you have the 5 year Fiat warranty you need to have the 2 year and 4 year services done at a Fiat Professional garage.
