It’s only been a year of Moho’ing but ... the orange ehu cable has a blue cap on the end . To plug it into the moho (which has a male connector ) I have to bend the cap right back to fit the slot - is this the norm or should I get a m/f converter - or am I being very thick .

Don’t forget ,plug into moho first and then bollard
Edit
I need to read the post before I post !
I think we need a picture but I am not with the motorhome at the moment .

So you don’t just open it at 45deg you open it up so the flap stays outside the van.

No you lift it about 6 to 8 mm. (edit) past 90deg open, there is a small nib sticking up In the moho part that the lid latches over.

Two common fitments on older vans,

This sort the flap lies inside the socket, remember to unlatch by pushing down on the blue tab to the left. Shown not fully pushed in for clarity.

This sort the flap just hooks onto the socket. Do not like this sort as the blue part can pull away from the body and rip out van wiring if someone trips over the cable.

Edit... too slow.

Oh what a d@&khead I am . For a year I’ve been convinced that you force the blue cover backwards to get a connection - it never occurred to me to actually look at the moho socket and it is , as perfectly explained above , a gap above the socket for the cover to slide into .

what a prize idiot

Thanks funsters

No you’re not a prize idiot.................you only qualify for that title if you actually drive off the pitch with the ehu cable still attached! Do let us know if you ever get to that stage! ;)

Live and learn eh why would you know any different unless you’ve worked on a building site and seen them all over the place.
Does make me laugh when you read the sockets aren’t supposed to be used in the wet conditions.

We all make mistakes, I've got the T shirt !

I always wrap the EHU cable over the back of the rear wheel and keep it off the ground so nobody including me can trip over it and also leave a lot of cable length unwound underneath around the back of the van so if anyone does trip on the cable between the van and the EHU post nothing can get pulled out or damaged.

I also keep my cables away from trees as this is where dogs do their business ;)

I have seen more than one used hookup lead that the previous owner has taken a hacksaw to the dust cover or ripped it off. On my current van, the fitting is a very tight fit, and Brenda can't get it on or off, but you need to resist lubricating the connection as it can lead to the plug overheating if it gets on the brass pins

Well cables don’t come with instructions you know 😂😂😂
I had a customer who bought a Velcro strap from me. After several emails (including sending photos) and lengthy telephone calls, he never did manage to understand how they were used.

On my current van, the fitting is a very tight fit,

I had the same problem a while back and sprayed a very small amount of silicon grease carefully on the plastic parts. So far so good
