I’m in the market for a “ back up generator ” to keep in the back of my motorhome for when I’m away wild camping in Scotland and Norway. Now the Honda one certainly ticks all the boxes with pure sine wave output, very powerful and a five year warranty too but is it really worth paying the extra than say the Hyundai version that is only £600? The Hyundai one has a slightly less power output and only a 3 year warranty. They are more or less the same weight at 21kgs and a similar size. Would I be daft paying the extra?

I have a Honda 10 and it's been very reliable. Not much good for any real load in the moho but ok for battery top ups and TV etc

I think some recommend Kipor units. I have no experience of those but despite the price Hinda are the dog's doodahs apparently.

Ive got the Hyundai 2Kw and its been great👍

I'd go for the Hyundai. Got a Honda 10i and it's good but I wouldn't buy another.

Although I do like Honda , I had a small Honda ex 7 , lasted just over a year before the inverter failed , was an uneconomical repair
I now have a cheap (£150) wolf generator , working well & pound for pound worked out the better option for me , a lot of these small generators are the same unit badged & dressed differently but with wide variety of prices
I guess it’s pays your money & take your chances

I had the same dilemma a couple of years ago when I was looking for a 1Kw genny for battery charging. I reasoned that while there was better resale value on the Honda the difference in initial cost equaled it out.
As I am in the van a good ten months a year and almost exclusively off grid in the U.K. it has had a lot of use. I got the Hy1000Si and haven’t regretted it for a minute.

We have the larger one of this in dual fuel ans will be going to this when we sell on the larger one

If I was going to by a genny ,I would go for a 2 kw, as for the brand? When we had a Honda 2 kw it was excellent but I hardly ever used it.

I don't think you'll go wrong with either makes as both are decent.
the Honda has market share as it's been around the longest and is reliable.
the Hyundai offers the same for slightly less but is less popular but becoming more so.
Both offer easy access to parts.
As others have said, the honda will hold its value better but depends on what you're using it for and how frequent for wear & tear.
I had the Honda EU10i and it was quality, but like most things these days, reliability of the competition is getting better and better and certain parts will all be made in the same factory in China, just badged differently.
I'd be tempted to go for the Hyundai.

Well I got the Honda EU22i yesterday. (y)
The production date is 11/21 so after the problems highlighted by the recall. Put the correct type and amount of oil in followed by a few litres of the higher octane petrol and it fired up on the 9th pull. (y) It’s superbly quiet on the low / automatic setting too. It’s now sat on the shelf right on the back wall of the garage where it’s going to live. Perfect.
