Popped up to holy island for a night to catch up with daughter and family...
Gary my son in lay enjoys living off the land...
So an early morning trip to the shore to collect mussel and limpet..
Have to say other than the faff on getting enough to eat I enjoyed them..:)

Morning Andy

Do they actually live on Holy Island?

Great place to live even if only close, I have spent a few nights at the mainland end of the causeway, where it says no overnight parking, but I arrive late and go early, hopefully no offence caused or hopefully my presence barely even noticed

Mussels, yes, love them, but limpets? My understanding was a gently poached inner-sole would be better, but a bit of research suggests I may be wrong. Found this recipe from River Cottage; Link Removed
However, it does remind me a bit of recipes for snails - where the amount of butter and garlic is so sufficient the actual snail becomes incidental and could be substituted for with a few slivers from a pencil eraser.

Don't live to far away now, I've been drinking quite a lot of Lindisfarne bitter from our local farm shop but the rose wine costs a fortune. When I have more time for jaunts around the area I will visit Holy Island more.

Hi David. . They take a holiday let 2 or 3 time's a year up here.. they could go abroad for what it costs bur they enjoy and prefer this..
I pop up in my little camper.. and just stop beside their cottage.. most probably wouldn't get away with it in a larger mh..
I've overnighter on the car park at the beginning of the causeway myself and never bad a problem. ..

The limpets are a quite chewy meal :D.. taste similar to the muscles but not as strong a taste..
I like the chewy texture... bit like squid.

On and off for many years.

Let us know when and we will come and meet you - winter is the best time to visit, much quieter. I often go in January or February for a day.

And not far from a free stop over about half an hour away :) Please feel free to call in if you have time - best call first as Catherine and the kids will be around for the Edinburgh astronomy weekend.

And, as above there is a free stop over with EHU etc about half an hour away :)

Well I'm still alive after my sea food breakfast:D
Went for a good walk around part of the island but unfortunately ended up in the pub after ,so was in no fit state to leave, tide had come in anyway...

Here's another of the castle my daughter took a couple years back... shrouded by mist and cloud...
right place right time..
IMG-20161117-WA0006.jpg

Couple more of the more remote parts of the island, but it's easy walking..
