Just a quickie question, how good are these Jack's in the type of winds we are experiencing at the moment? Do they keep the van from moving?

Yeah I’d like to know that as well having just been shaken and stirred for 3 nights

Spent Saturday night Sunday v early morning at Keswick, got evacuated at 3:3080mph winds and I slept like a baby, something to do with beer, wine and whiskey nightcap maybe!
self levelling worked a treat?

I would say no they won’t negate the affect of the strong winds but it will be different, without jacks the van will sway around in the wind with quite big movements, with jacks down it will be more of a harsh buffeting.

I went to Durness about this time 4 years ago in very similar conditions parked at Sango Sands actually got motion sickness

came back and had E & P jacks fitted just because of that, they stop 95% of the movement ?

the levelling for me was a secondary benefit , we have a Mercedes chassis which in an A class has quite an overhang relative to wheel base width , plus quite a long rear overhang which can’t help

As others have said, in the sort of winds we have had in the last few days there will still be a fair bit of buffeting but not the violent rocking on the suspension you would get without the jacks.
It certainly feels a lot safer and more comfortable with the jacks deployed.

Richard.

I said this on another similar thread recently: I really like the feeling when the van moves in the wind.

I recollect a pic on this forum last year showing the aftermath of a violent storm which hit northern Italy.

A motorhome on self levelling jacks was pitched over at 45 degrees. The ground conditions did look quite sandy.

Thank you for your replies, Jack's are now moving up my want list.

your ep levelling jacks stop rocking even in severe wind. We were in a storm at southport last year. Friends in their vans couldnt sleep due to the severe rocking. We slept just fine.
The Jack's go straight to the chassis so once down you are as solid as the ground they are on.

I too have the Mercedes chassis which is narrower than the Eurovan Fiat/ Peugeot / Citroen chassis so I need the jacks more than most but as Martin says above "more of a buffeting than swaying around in the wind"

We had factory fitted wind down legs fitted at the rear , they do make a big difference when it's windy and for general stability

On our frankia we had built in rear steadies , used them once and found that even a slight movement in the overcab bed still rocked the van.
But all round jacks do the job

I’m brand new to all this, haven’t actually picked the MH up yet, but self levelling jacks sound like the way to go.

The MH we pick up on Friday includes levelling ramps, but this sounds much better to me.

Any advise on where to buy a self levelling system would be very welcome

Are jacking systems easily transferrable from one MH to another?

Are any makes more readily transferred than others?
Had my E&P jacks moved from one 4250kg Alko chassis to 5000kg tag axle Alko. Cost me a lot less than buying a new set. Mick at S.A.P. originally fitted them and did the swap for me as well. Top job.

We had Mick at SAP fit an E& P system to our Kontiki. When we were changing the van, he took off the system, stored it for 4 weeks and then fitted it our our new A class Burstner. Did a great job as always and as previously stated, much cheaper than a new system.
