Hi everyone my names Roy I’ve had caravans etc then I built my own crafter from scratch using second hand bits to keep the cost down underslung lpg tank etc , now the reason I’ve joined is that when I was having problems with my dreaded Truma 4e
I just wanted to share my experience to help others possibly so it’s been in fitted in the van for about a year I bought it second hand with the lpg gas tank for 900 quid it had been taken out of a motorhome as they wanted the diesel one so when fitted
I had a nightmare of first getting it going as I had no instructions and realised I needed a room stat for it to come on so that was fitted then it’s own direct supply of 12v on good gauge twin core then this problem next occurred it never really put much heat out of gas or electric and when switched to gas the start up was very intermittent it would go through the procedure and you could hear the gas drop off and come up with e122h on the panel which gives you a few options of working what’s wrong now
I ring truma they wouldn’t give me any advice as I’m not a gas engineer but when I do gas work I have it checked by my friend who is and also fit the correct manifold and pipe drop out hole use leak spray gas drop etc I rang a caravan service engineer and he wouldn’t come out because I built the van myself
so anyway I checked the manifold first and gas coming out nice I checked the hob nice blue flames no yellow flame I tapped the reg nothing then I used a full gas bottle with a reg I knew was good direct to the truma and nothing same again so I though the gas jet was blocked now don’t do what I did I don’t know what I was thinking really
I sprayed I little carb spray down the gas pipe left it 2 hours and kicked it in no we know what’s going happen it kicked in the igniter and blew the exhaust hose off and shot a flame out which was very stupid on my part but the truma kicked in and stayed running now the jet wasn’t the problem but doing that stupid act pointed to the correct problem and that was the hoses the inlet more importantly cause everytime I put it back on the truma gas stopped flowing so I took the hoses off and even the vent outside the van and inspected
so what I did I used the same exhaust hose fitted that tightly then I used a bigger diameter intake hose and hey presto the unit is better than every it pumps the heat out the water heating time has halved it’s about 15 m now I just don’t think the supplied hose is big enough sorry to go on thanks for reading I hope this helps
