Hi. We have been lurkers on the site for some time. Thanks for all the helpful info. We bought our first motorhome in Nov( a 2018 Pilote P600) and have been out and about a bit. We found that when changing from 4th to 5th gear it is stiff and crunchy Can anyone suggest a good Fiat professional garage in the Sheffield South Yorkshire area to go to? Thanks.

More than toes wet now!
It should still be under warranty as well.

We had a similar problem on a 2018 Relay (same 6 speed manual box as the Ducato and Boxer). Lost synchromesh from 4th to 5th. Apparently it is a ‘known problem’ due to incorrect assembly of the gearboxes. Official line was that the gearbox needed to be stripped and rebuilt, but in view of the low mileage when this happened (~2500 miles) the whole gearbox was replaced under warranty. There was/had been a shortage of replacement boxes. The replacement was a big job that took 3 or 4 days in the workshop.

Many thanks for the prompt responses. As you report it is a known problem and done less than 2000 hopefully we will get a new gearbox. We got an extended fiat warranty with it to 5 years so we should be ok for a few years. Husband says it works ok when double declutching (youngsters ask your dad or grandad !). Will get on to the garage tomorrow.

With any of these large garages one of the things you should check is whether they do large contract repairs for the supermarkets. These will always take priority and motorhomes can be left for days or even weeks before being worked on.

Interesting... Both Peugeot & Citroen have used different engines and gearboxes since their Euro VI was fitted from 2016, It's one of the reasons why their mpg is less than the Fiat now and why they need AdBlu. Prior to this most of the PSA's had Ford engines mated to the same box as the Ducato. It was why there was no auto option as Ford didn't build one for vans at the time. PSA still don't.

Thank you for this. I didn't realise that might be a problem. Is this the voice of experience?

Yes motorhome in big commercial garage, been there 7 weeks now and been told at the moment they have done 7 hours of work! Loads of Asda vans outside and inside garage. If you're just getting the van mot'd or serviced might not be a problem but if anything goes on the van you could face a long wait.

Oh dear Parrot face. What rotten luck. Ours has been in a week. Sherwoods were very good and tested it the first day and agreed it needs a new gearbox. Now waiting on Fat to send one. They say it will be about 5 days and then take 2 to fit but we have booked to go away to Peterborough so hope it gets done before then or it will have to wait until after. Fingers crossed it is done soon. 7 weeks is outrageous and they can't give you a courtesy motorhome in the meantime.

I have heard that Fiat will be using AdBlue in their updated Euro 6.2 engines due to be released later this year

Hi. Thanks for all who replied and for the helpful info. We just collected our Pilote motorhome today. 10 days ago we took her into Sherwoods in Sheffield (great recommendation). The mechanic took her for a test drive and agreed the gearbox was faulty (less than 2000 miles on the clock). They contacted Fiat who said yes they would replace it under warranty. The garage had to remove and dismantle the gearbox and send photos to Fiat before getting the final go ahead to replace it. That took Fiat 7 daysin total and then the garage had to wait a day for the new gearbox to arrive. Time to replace 2 days as Sherwoods apparently run a 24 hour work shift rota. Test drive and all seems ok.

Can only recommend Sherwoods. The staff were cheerful, helpful and prompt. They rang us with progress reports! Brilliant service.
