Steep learning curve ... fridge works on mains and 12v and if I light it from outside also on gas ...ignition light not showing and no ticking sound ... is there a simple solution ... or is it an engineer job?
Dometic model HM5271 type 40/110

The ignition will have a different supply cable to the 12v cooling system. Have you checked all your habitation fuses, no ignition light would indicate an electrical supply issue.

The power for the 12v cooling usually only works when the engine is running and comes from the starter battery. However, the power for the gas ignition will come from your habitation battery usually via a controller of some sort which will have its own fuses. usually fitted in the wardrobe or overhead locker somewhere.

The van ignition has nothing to do with the fridge except that (usually) the engine must be running for the fridge to work on 12v.
The fridge will have its own igniter that lights the fridge burner (like there is on a home cooker). The fridge igniter and the 'igniter light' will receive 12v from their own wiring which will have a fuse that may have blown.

I can't find a manual for a Dometic HM 5271 on the Dometic website. Do you mean RM 7271?

Ah, I'll have a look at the manual but it's 90% certain it'll be a lack of 12v to the igniter and the igniter light (same circuit, same fuse for both).

Silly point maybe but you said you're very green...........
You do know that after you've turned the rotary selector knob to 'Gas' you have to press it in for the igniter to work?

If you don't have one the manual's here. See pages 7 and 8

:hi2: w2f:cheers: Just a thought, your fridge ignition, is it battery powered as in an AAA battery? Mine is, with the battery being built into the ignition button. Half a turn will release the button and you can pull the battery out to replace it.
