Could be either the 2.9 or the newer 2.7 which I think made an appearance around 2001.

Yes but not as reliable as the preceding 2.9 with the gearstick on the floor.

Used to be known as the 100 mph van engine when in a Sprinter van, I have wondered how fast our 2.7 would go, it easily accelerates past seventy quickly, best not try I suppose.

I had already replied to your post re this in the thread you started earlier yesterday.

model of engine​

Probably 2.7L 5 cylinder 156 bhp. Either manual Sprintshift or rarely Torque converter automatic . The gearstick will be on the dashboard. If a late example of the 2.9L it will be on the floor.

they had to derate the pump as unrestricted standard it would cruise with 185-190 kph all day & merc thought they would have problems with various authorities so derated it.

Not far from me lived a fella who works for SIS Uplink, they provide communication links for big sporting events like F1, he drives various Mercedes vans that don’t sound like diesels. So one day while walking the dog I asked him what engine his van had, with a big smile he told answered 6.3 V8 !! Apparently Mercedes do weird and wonderful things for their friends.
