Help required with step motor

Hi All,

I am a new member and looking for some help from the more technical minded out there. My motorhome is a 2001 Roller Team and the electric step has packed in, its a Mappa step with a Unus electric motor ( step and motor are Italian). I have removed the motor and want to double check it`s the motor that has stopped working, but not being good with electrics I don't know how to do it. I have attached a picture of the motor, it has 2 wires coming from it.
I`m sure there must be an easy way to check it, but regret I don't have a clue !! Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Could be an earth problem there take a lot of dirt and muck. Worth a check.

As the picture shows it as removed rig it up to a battery.
As it a DC unit reverse the polarity to reverse the movement.
Looks like a wiper motor to me.
If that doesn't make it work it's most likely the motor.
Any numbers on it look it up on eBay.

Connect it to 12v (either way round). It should motor smoothly. That's all there is to test.

If you throw Unus motor into Google it would appear that Merc use the same basic motor to wind up their windows. The regulator at the end may be different but it looks like that unscrews quite easily. Cost about £80 which is better than the £300 someone wanted for a new step motor!

Seems Alfa use a similar motor to lift the hood on their softtop 916 Spider. Common for the plastic gear to strip in the housing at the end of the motor. You can get a new 80 tooth gear made in brass for £20.

Thule use a Headlight Adjuster 0390203266 Bosch on theirs and they are £30 on fleabay not sure if it will fit yours.
