Rapido 7096DF

just buying
Can I ask for your advice. We are just about to buy a Rapido 7096DF motorhome

IMG_1661.JPEG IMG_1660.JPEG but we are concerned about the way the bed is put together in the lounge area. The dealer sent us some photos to show how it goes together but there seems to be a lot of gaps and very little solid base. It is advertised as a 4 berth but we are unsure it would take two adults on the this 'bed'. Are we being overly cautious and is this the sort of thing we should expect in all motor homes?

:hiya:
It doesn’t look too comfortable! We used to have a VW conversion where the bed was made up from 8 separate pieces of cushion. Horizontal gaps across the body were easier to shufftie around but “my side” had a longitudinal gap rather like the 2 upside down cushions in your photo. There was a slight height difference and this was a bit of a pain. Luckily one of the cushions was a bit wider and I tried to lie with hips just on that one. However we did keep it for 8 years !

Many people use a mattress topper and with the Rapido you may have the room to carry one but in our VW there wasn’t the luxury of any storage space.

We used to have a caravan where the bed base was a table top like the one in your photo. We did get condensation between the cushion and the tabletop.

Perhaps someone will come along who has a Rapido and will be able to put your mind at rest, but I think you are right to be cautious especially if this is to be your main bed.

Might be worth editing the title to Help Please on Rapido 7096 more likely to be picked up by someone who can answer your question. Welcome to MHF!

Our 6 series Rapido has a similar arrangement, though not exactly the same. I put it together once to check it 'worked'. I guess it would be OK in an emergency if one extra person stayed with you but it certainly isn't suitable for every night use by two adults in my view. It's narrower on the habitation door side, too, so you would always have to sleep with head at the other end. Once put up, there is nowhere for anyone to sit, so you would all have to go to bed and get up at the same time.

We've now taken the table out of our van, so it's no longer possible. We only wanted a two berth van and that's what we have, albeit with extra belted seats.

I agree with all previous post having owned and built my own the 1 factor in all was a fixed bed single or double .(y)
Without all the ballache of bed making without cusions moving in the night
Oh and a shower /toilet area that u could actually get in to use :)

That set up looks impossible to sleep on due to the lack of support underneath. I can't imagine trying to turn over or even get out of bed without falling into a chasm somewhere.
Most "put you up" beds are a bit of a compromise, but this is appalling.
Our Burstner came with separate "mattress" cushions to make up the dinette bed, but in reality, if you use them, they take up a lot of space when they're not on the bed and the existing seat cushions (which make a satisfactory bed anyway) would need storing somewhere.

that table looks smaller than the one originally supplied with the van

If that were to be my main bed I would not accept it, but if it is for drunken visitors who cannot walk home they probably would not notice.;)

I have a Dethleffs motorhome and the 'occasional' bed(s) are a joke. It comprises of a number of specially designed bits of covered foam blocks that could fill half the storage space in the van. It took me quite a while to work out the layout from the handbook as every different model uses different blocks of foam.
We have abandoned the supplied system and I have designed my own which only required one small extra piece of plywood.
We had a Burstner before which was equally useless.
Perhaps budget for a different layout, there are plenty.
Unless a Rapido owner knows better.

That looks like it originally had a square table ( which would just about work )
Perhaps someone with the same model can confirm or deny this?
