Hi All,

Long time reader of the forum but not needed to post until now.

Unfortunately I will have to be a bit generic here in respect to names and establishments given that this could take on a more serious path.

Purchased a brand new Roller Team Tline on a Fiat Ducato 2024 cab. I wanted security and having obtained some insurance quotes we settled on the Moving Intelligence S5 tracker (the one with driver ID). This was installed by the dealer and before handover to me. They installed it themselves.

Last month we were away on vacation and on our final day started the motorhome to leave early morning and the dash threw up "check power steering", "Airbag" and some other warnings. The power steering would stay active for a short while and would then lock up. The front electric windows were erratic in behaviour - sometimes would work, then wouldn't and then would remain on and working for sometime after the keys were removed.

Fiat Assist arrived and put the following in their report:

Various faults. Ongoing problem. Intermittent non start. Power steering , airbag and windows inop with fault warnings. Everything starts to work for max of 5 secs then stops. No comns with various modules but mainly BCM . further diag required.

The Fiat assist engineer also suggested that the wiring under the dash and steering column (the S5 tracker wiring) didn't appear to be the "standard he would expect". Whilst not in the report his manager wrote to me with the report (at a later date) and made a statement to that effect.

Later that day the motorhome was recovered to the nearest Fiat dealer and is still there now some six weeks later. The garage called me the day after receiving it and suggested that the after initial review it would appear that the aftermarket tracker was the possible cause because of the way in which the original Fiat wiring loom had been spliced into (second person to have suggested this).

Forward a week or two and the garage called me to say that the fault was no longer present but clearly hadn't fixed itself. To date the garage have been unable to replicate the fault. One of their master technicians then looked at the vehicle - only visually - and said that the workmanship on the tracker wiring is shoddy, but they cannot be 100% certain that the wiring is the cause of the fault. They have sent me some images of the wiring as they are not local but as I am not an electrician, I can't tell how good or bad the wiring is. To date no actual work has been carried out apart from visuals - they confirmed it came in with a load of fault codes but then just fixed itself.

I have looked in the forum and have seen similar issues that have turned out to be water ingress in the wiring loom that has led to erosion and I will have them confirm/or not if this is the cause.

The issue I now have is that I have two organisations telling me that the wiring is not what they would expect and that if this is the cause of the fault then it will be a chargeable repair - and not cheap and my motorhome is sitting there in limbo. I am reluctant, along with the dealer, accept it back for us to have the same issues later down the line.

I was wondering if any of you good people have experienced any similar issues and if any of you have the S5 tracker installed and if someone could post a picture of what the under-dash wiring looks like near the fuse-box and steering column. I am clearly at a loose end.

As an aside, the motorhome suffered a total battery failure a few months ago and had to be replaced. I have no idea if these issues are linked in any way or just two separate faults.

Any advice and I mean anything would be very greatly appreciated.

Have you got the Sentinal S5 Ultimate which has the 2 Gemini fobs

If you have to wake them up by shaking them before you attempt to start the vehicle, if not you’ll get all sorts of different warnings in your the dash board cluster

Tracker could be a red herring ? There are reported issues with the newer Ducato models and the electric power steering connections not being particularly water resistant. People have had power steering loss + various other errors.

Indeed and they were shook. Have been using it fine for the past year and never had this issue. My understanding was that if you didn't shake them then the vehicle wouldn't even start? It started fine then came the errors, then came the power steering lock up and inoperable windows. So in short it could have been driven, of course not safely, as no power steering.

We have the Phantom S5 tracker and if you forget to shake it or press the button you can start the van as normal but within a few minutes Moving Intelligence will be on the phone to check that it’s us driving.

The immobiliser is another bit that you pay for as an add on. We didn’t pay for it. Sounded more trouble than it was worth.

Obviously I can’t comment on the quality of the installation but I think your first step is to to go to a Fiat Professional garage in case it’s nothing to do with the tracker.

I would be surprised if the alarm/tracker was connected deep enough to mess with the systems that you mention.

Fiat Professional first stop, its still under warranty sounds an electrical problem, I think the tracker would have taken a feed off the live wire for the ignition nothing to do with power steering or windows

Thanks all for the replies thus far. I think my worry are the comments made by both the Fiat Garage and the Fiat Assist engineer about the quality of the wiring.

When you shake it/them you should get 3 beeps before attempting to start the vehicle or that’s what I’m told and do and no issues if I do this.

If I don’t shake them I get no dash anything at all, it’s dead as a dodo, then I get the check diesel filter icon lit up as it turns over and it stays on.

sounds like yours is possibly wired into a different circuit to mine.

Give Moving Intelligence a call in the morning. We had problems with our initial (dealer install) and they were most helpful. We ended up having one of their engineers out to fit another couple of sensors and he checked the thing over at the same time. The cost was not excessive and it has worked perfectly since.

We don’t get any beeps and we’ve been using ours for a year now. Did you pay for the immobiliser option? This was an extra level. Just wondering as we don’t want to confuse the OP! We don’t have the immobiliser option.

Ours is also dead as a dodo if tag not activated, followed by call from MI, we have had a couple of electrical problems but both times Fiat related.

Yes I paid for the Ultimate (immobiliser) option.

Up to now it’s been very good but I’m having issues either the new interior sensors which need adjusting down a little bit more I think

Tech coming Wednesday to sort it 👍

I unplugged our interior ultrasonics as we have a PIR no false alarms since 😏

Take it to a Fiat Professional. Fiat Assist is just a sub contracted recovery service, often the RAC in the UK. As said by yorkiebar there is a known problem with water getting into the electric steering wiring connection and this could throw up all manner of problems. Fiat have issued a Bulletin to Fiat Professional garages about the power steering electrics because it is a known problem.

Ours has the immobiliser option and alarm. We get three beebs every time we start up after waking the fob up.

Sounds like the 3 beeps is the immobiliser bit and not the tracker. Thanks for clearing that part up everyone who replied.

So, we have the said devices, ref the immobiliser, if the radio token isn’t woken up by a shake all the ignition light illuminate but the vehicle won’t start, we then get a call from MI, for clarity there are no beeps emitted at any time other than when setting/unsetting the alarm. If you consider the installation dubious and the cause of your issues, have it removed and reinstalled by a trusted agent.

Ours definitely emits three beeps and the MI engineer said that this is how it should be. Our vehicle horn beeps when we arm the alarm.
