Hi All,
Long time reader of the forum but not needed to post until now.
Unfortunately I will have to be a bit generic here in respect to names and establishments given that this could take on a more serious path.
Purchased a brand new Roller Team Tline on a Fiat Ducato 2024 cab. I wanted security and having obtained some insurance quotes we settled on the Moving Intelligence S5 tracker (the one with driver ID). This was installed by the dealer and before handover to me. They installed it themselves.
Last month we were away on vacation and on our final day started the motorhome to leave early morning and the dash threw up "check power steering", "Airbag" and some other warnings. The power steering would stay active for a short while and would then lock up. The front electric windows were erratic in behaviour - sometimes would work, then wouldn't and then would remain on and working for sometime after the keys were removed.
Fiat Assist arrived and put the following in their report:
Various faults. Ongoing problem. Intermittent non start. Power steering , airbag and windows inop with fault warnings. Everything starts to work for max of 5 secs then stops. No comns with various modules but mainly BCM . further diag required.
The Fiat assist engineer also suggested that the wiring under the dash and steering column (the S5 tracker wiring) didn't appear to be the "standard he would expect". Whilst not in the report his manager wrote to me with the report (at a later date) and made a statement to that effect.
Later that day the motorhome was recovered to the nearest Fiat dealer and is still there now some six weeks later. The garage called me the day after receiving it and suggested that the after initial review it would appear that the aftermarket tracker was the possible cause because of the way in which the original Fiat wiring loom had been spliced into (second person to have suggested this).
Forward a week or two and the garage called me to say that the fault was no longer present but clearly hadn't fixed itself. To date the garage have been unable to replicate the fault. One of their master technicians then looked at the vehicle - only visually - and said that the workmanship on the tracker wiring is shoddy, but they cannot be 100% certain that the wiring is the cause of the fault. They have sent me some images of the wiring as they are not local but as I am not an electrician, I can't tell how good or bad the wiring is. To date no actual work has been carried out apart from visuals - they confirmed it came in with a load of fault codes but then just fixed itself.
I have looked in the forum and have seen similar issues that have turned out to be water ingress in the wiring loom that has led to erosion and I will have them confirm/or not if this is the cause.
The issue I now have is that I have two organisations telling me that the wiring is not what they would expect and that if this is the cause of the fault then it will be a chargeable repair - and not cheap and my motorhome is sitting there in limbo. I am reluctant, along with the dealer, accept it back for us to have the same issues later down the line.
I was wondering if any of you good people have experienced any similar issues and if any of you have the S5 tracker installed and if someone could post a picture of what the under-dash wiring looks like near the fuse-box and steering column. I am clearly at a loose end.
As an aside, the motorhome suffered a total battery failure a few months ago and had to be replaced. I have no idea if these issues are linked in any way or just two separate faults.
Any advice and I mean anything would be very greatly appreciated.
