Does anyone know of a garage or mechanic that can work on a 2006/07 Ford Transit semi automatic gearbox? Ours has started to crunch the gears sometimes when decelerating after a longish drive on a motorway or dual carriageway, and then sometimes not go down all the way to first but want to stick in 3rd. Obviously can be a problem if coming off onto a roundabout etc. with then needing to pull out. Fixed it so far by putting into neutral and then back into gear, but obviously something isn't right and don't want to damage it further by using it and not getting it fixed. Apart from after a steady long run on a fast road it works perfectly.
The problem I am having is actually finding someone prepared to work on this gearbox. I am in Birmingham and have been unable to find anyone locally but don't mind traveling to someone pretty much anywhere if they can sort the gearbox out. I would greatly appreciate if anyone knows of someone that repairs these gearboxes in the Midlands ideally but as I say, anywhere really if they can sort the problem out. Thanks

About 30 years ago there was a small independent engine and gearbox specialist very near the former Savacentre at Oldbury. Vaguely remember it being in a back street near Sandwell Town Hall. The were able to fix a recurring problem stuck in gear problem on a company auto Cavalier that the main dealer in Reading failed to fix. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the garage, and of course it may no longer exist, but maybe it will give a clue to trigger a memory in someone more local.

A friend of ours had a repair done by this firm and was very happy to recommend them, not to far away from you either.

I used to have one of these and from your description of the fault I think it is more likely to be a fault with the electronic module than the gearbox itself. When I had mine it would sometimes forget a gear and go from 1st to 3rd and back, switching it off and on fixed it. Will a ford dealer do a reset on the ECU?
