Hi gang....the hunt continues, but thanks to you all, we are moving in the right direction! I've been spending a while on mobile.de and found Broken Link Removed van which I REALLY like the look of (not this particular one per say, but the model, layout etc). I have a question for the "van spotters" amongst you though. On the rear view photos of the van, you can see that the upper section of the moulded roof has both a keyhole and what looks to be a raising section at the rear. Does anyone have the faintest clue as to what this is? A raiding extra roof section? A storage box? An expanding conservatory complete with dying venus fly-trap and compulsory wicker furniture??!! Any clues, write in on a postcard please!!

Thanks again you wonderful lot!!

It looks like a built in storage box. Image 13 shows à lower ceiling height at the rear of the vehicle. This will be the base of the storage box.

I kinda thought the same, thank you for your views. Will see if anyone else has maybe come across one for a definitive "It's this" answer!!

One of the interior pics appears to show it open to the outside with a piano hinge along its front edge? Otherwise I'd have said locker.

sorry tonyidle I can't seem to see what you re describing? What photo number are you looking at? I'm 99% sure that the outside view shows a standard car-door type lock on the outside of the roof?

If you are looking at similar layouts then consider an Autosleeper Topaz. We had one for 8 years and loved it. Same as this one (ours 2002) on VW 2400 turbo diesel. Didn’t have that handy locker though !

old-mo You are amazing, thank you so much!! Riverbankannie thank you for your suggestion. There are a couple of problems with the auto-sleepers. Firstly, given my height, I don't think i would be able to stand fully upright in that van, which is a must-have for me. Secondly, as far as I know, auto-sleeper don't do anything in LHD, at least i certainly haven't seen any of their mid 90's vans with LHD?

It was photo 13 but I'm wrong - mainly because the photographer is facing the rear and I didn't try hard enough. So locker it is .

way, way back you could buy high top roofs to fit panel vans and one or 2 had an integrated roof box

I’m sure you are correct in thinking all RHD. We are both tall, just over and just under 6ft and plenty of headroom in the Autosleeper but certainly it was not as roomy in the hardtop as that Concorde.
