Has anyone replaced the sink on their hymer ?

Has anyone replaced it with a grp model ?

Anyone with a modified space saving grp model?

If so who did you buy it from?

My sink was knackered ....cracked and discoloured so I ordered a new one from a grp company on ebay ....took around 2 weeks from ordering to it arriving only for it to be the wrong size , poorly finished and not any good ..so im returning it.

But I still need a sink....ive found a company on facebook GRP leisure who makes the replacement sink but not the modified version the guy on ebay did

I've previously seen a post on here sometime with someone with a modified version but cant remember their name etc

This is my old sink

And the one I bought from eBay showing the half moon modification

Do a search (top right) for Branfibre. Think they are in Banbury

Can’t you get repaired and recoloured by the company that repairs shower trays

Its pretty knackered to be honest and quite flimsy ....i can get a replacement made in grp which would be stronger by derek justice of grp leisure but he only does the original standard shape and I quite like the idea of the modified version to give a little more room in the bathroom

I will have to put my thinking cap on here as I replaced one in my previous van although it wasn't the modified version.
Away to check through my old posts
Edit, Tam, sorry mate but looking at my older posts, and others I can't find the info

Sorry (and disappointed) that the modified sink has not worked out, as I was looking to get one myself. Just prior to you posting the link to the seller on eBay I had contacted a firm called awmarine (Link Removed) who do replacement bumpers and sinks. They had replied to me saying that they were sure that they could do the modification. I didn’t get back to them as I thought that the eBay guy was the right way to go, with him already having the moulds for the two part sink. I had noticed on your link that the modified sink did not have the second upstand, which tucked up behind the mirror, but was not put off by this as I was concerned about breaking the mirror in trying to remove it. I was thinking of cutting the old sink off horizontally at the bottom of the mirror and then screw fixing the new one in as per the picture on your eBay link. Obviously, with the width and projection of the backing of the sink, as supplied, being substantially different to the original, it’s no good. Perhaps awmarine could make up a modified sink based upon your removed sink - they did ask that I sent photos of what I was after.

I'm currently speaking to Derek justice from grp leisure and he is saying if there's a couple of people wanting a modified one that he would make the mould to do it

This is grp leisure unmodified standard replacement in grp which you can see does have the lip going under mirror and looks a much better finish .
He is also recommended elsewhere on here for other work done so looks a safer bet

We used Derek a few years ago and were very pleased with his work the finish is excellent and the price was very good too

That's good to know ...ive seen a few good reviews and spoke to the guy on Facebook who ordered the one shown in the photo above....he says its a very good finish and fitted perfectly ....so the original seems good its just getting him to do the modified one now ....which he now says he can do but prefer if he can make more than 1

The finish is excellent and the basin is so much stronger than the original he hadn’t got a mould for ours either
this is the original which you could virtually see through

This is the one he made for us.

Well after a lot of to and frowing with Derek it appears he's quite busy at the minute so wouldn't be able to work on a special mould for a good few weeks

As my sink is stripped out and I live in the van fulltime i can't wait that long to refit it so im just going to order the standard replacement one from him

The extra space would have been handy but I've managed 2 years with the original

Thanks for the replies

I had to break the mirror in my van to get the basin out as the upstanding at the back goes behind it.
I then had a slightly shorter mirror made so that l was able to insert a length of plastic wood type trim along the bottom so should l have needed access again it would have been easier to simply remove the trim to get at the screws behind.

Yeah to be honest i was lucky to get the mirror off in one piece as I did go a bit heavy handed in the end

Northernraider. Sorry Tam, but I've only just seen this (been busy socialising all weekend 😉 ), however it was well blogged on the HOG FB Group, which I know you don't frequent anymore. Johnny Firth was the guy who had the modified sink made, which created so much more space in the washroom/toilet area.

Sorry I can't help you more. ☹️

Cheers,

Jock. 🙂

No worries ...after going round the houses on it I've decided just to replace it with an original version.

Shame that you have decided to go with replacing with a round sink as per the original. I will make contact with grp leisure regards costs for a modified sink. I’m not in any hurry to change at the moment although it would have been useful to get it done now as we have now sold our house and likely to be living in Hymer on driveway of our bungalow for a few weeks whilst the refurb of the bungalow is completed. We will have some rooms nearly complete so would be able to store things in bungalow, but actually live in the van. Having been messed about by a couple of plasterers, we have now got one lined up but struggling to get plaster due to national shortage at moment.
Your van is looking amazing with all the mods and fettling that you have been doing.
