Yes it will do that, because that is what is designed for. But it won't let you use electrics for heating or cooking. After all, gas is much better at that than electricity.

5 amps at 240v is 1200w..
more than enough to power a fridge and a battery charger (as the lights will probably be 12v anyway).

To find out how much power you have available, just multiply the hookup amperage by 230, which will give you the wattage, thus 5A x 230V = 1150W. Your appliances should have the wattage shown somewhere on the appliance. There's a list of typical power ratings HERE (y)

I’ve run a 1230w hair drier off a 6A supply several times over the last 10 days. Everything else was off elect at the time.

This should help.

The 12V lamp power will come from the battery charger power but will only be a few Watts.

In theory 1st stage ECO Truma heating at 800W could also be used.

That's why I said fridge and battery charger rather than what they were asking (fridge and lights)

Might even get away with a toaster as well but a kettle would be pushing it I suspect :D

I saw a 1000W travel iron is Tescos the other day, with careful use 5A is doable as long as it survives the switch-on.

The (now ex) missus insisted that we take a travel iron on holiday. It is still unused today and I suppose ought to be donated to a charity shop for another muggins to put in their luggage.

Who does ironing in their MH? I thought we all try to escape from that drudgery.

If your fridge switches off of 230v ( if it is an AES) it will probably be low voltage--- when everyone else is using max power available------ if his happens implug until the " rush" is over !!!!
But like everyone else said--- 5amp is enough for small draw stuff!! --- assuming you have about 220/230 v !!

Small note:- My experience from the 90`s, is that Many Continental sites with the old infrasturcture, will struggle to output 220V and can often be lower. (I carried a plug in voltmeter in the R-V, and was intially surprised just how often I "saw" less than 220 volts!). 220 @ 5A =1100W :: 240 @ 5A = 1200W

You are very brave to say what a woman can and cannot do in the motorhome. Haha

Getting better
I bugg*rd a French 5 amp fuse last year by forgetting to turn off the hot water heating. The owner was less than amused after he had changed two fuses.
I turned the water to gas and all was well, with no more trips to the office complaining about his rotten electricity.

yes the 'rush' is significant. If people are pulling un reasonable power (un neighbourly) it will not leave much for you - a bit like site wifi where some may stream films and leaves an issue for others that want to use it for less hungry usage. I may have both of these points completely wrong if so I apologise!

5 amp outlets are there for a reason, to charge batteries and power low wattage items only. They don’t want you using kettles, heating and other high power electrical items when you can use gas for all these.
So, why would you want to try and get away with using them?

Ironing in the Motorhome?. SWMBO insisted we had one in the R-V. But we where effectively Full timers for up to 6 month at a time and had access to a 4Kw Generator, when we did the USA "tour". between 2008 and 2013. I think I have seen one in a locker in the current van, but cannot ever remember it being used.?

AS once had a PVC with a fold-out ironing board. Not a huge success.

I expect the wives had one look at it and ahouted 'I thought I was going on HOLIDAY in this thing!!!' LOL. Of course one should only take the Au Pair in these cases.

At the end of the day 5 amps is 5 amps, what you do with it is up to you.
Its not about "getting away" with anything, its about maximising the supplied current safely without tripping it. No more, no less.

Who says? Truma has had an ECO mode to make use of 5A EHU for ages!!
I doubt that is the reason.

You will find that the electric version of the Truma is almost exclusively used in the UK market only. Few mainland Europeans have it in their motorhomes, which are nearly all gas only. The European makers only put it, or more often specify it as an extra, in their UK bound models.

The eco mode is 800W which draws over 3 amps, and often approaching 4 amps if the voltage is low, which often happens on French sites. Does not leave much for the other stuff like the fridge, TV and battery charger before it blows.
