Was checking everything out and can’t get the fridge to work on gas!
I’ve checked that I’ve got gas
I’ve checked it’s switched to gas, hold in the gas button,
Press the igniter and nothing happens, (put a new battery in) it works fine on 240V
Any help appreciated

If it has not been used for some time the igniter may have to run for 30 secs before it lights up, instead of the normal 10 secs when it is regular use. And sometimes it is necessary to deselect gas and start again. I have had both happen but each time it did light.

Try that.

Have you lit the hob, that was my go to fix on one of ours, seemed to get the gas flowing 👍

But also as above let the igniter click away for longer than you might expect

Also I often found it had lit but I hadn’t realised till I got a mini blow back as I tried to light it while already lit

Hi yes just tried Nicholsongs idea, to no avail!
already lit the gas hob and ran the gas heater.
No clicking noise at all even with new battery! 😐

You probably have either:

A blown fuse
A faulty igniter unit
or a fault in the igniter wiring circuit or control box.
Or your igniter has its own separate dry battery which is flat (as in 'discharged', not its shape).

I'd begin by checking for a blown fuse then using a meter to test at the igniter unit for voltage when you switch to gas.

Are you sure the igniter isn't working (clicking)?

Have you checked the red knob is turned on?

Depending on model of Dometic fridge you have there may be a black wire connection going to the gas burner, if you remove this connection clean the terminal and then replace it, the igniter may then work.

Checked the fuse it’s ok

Igniter does have its own battery and I have changed it for a new one.

Not sure I’m understanding the “ check voltage” when on gas bit!

Although the fridge is set to gas the igniter is electrical. If there's no voltage at the igniter the igniter won't work - i.e. it's the electrical igniter spark that you should hear clicking. Just to clarify if it's necessary, the igniter is next to the gas burner at the bottom rear of the fridge.
Is the battery within the ignition knob or separate?
We could go on faffing with this for ever if you don't tell what make/model fridge you have or at least post a photo. It should be shown on a label inside the fridge. Didn't you get the fridge manual with other documentation when you bought the m/h?

Can you hear it clicking? Most likely cause is the burner is full of rust or the jet is blocked look on you tube for how to remove parts via the bottom vent

Took the burner apart, cleaned everything including the flue and jet and reassembled.

As I’ve only owned this for 2 days.....the p.o. said they tested the fridge on 240V and gas before I picked it up.
It’s not my first motorhome with a Dometic fridge and I have the manual too!

So it hasn't worked in you possession. I wouldn't put too much faith in the seller's assurance.
It's important to get answers to questions because fault finding is a process of methodical checking each function, not random guessing and assumptions.
Are you absolutely sure that the igniter isn't working? If it isn't, then that's where to start. Cleaning burner and flue won't get it working without the igniter functioning. Never mind listening for the clicking, can you see it sparking?

I’ll have to wait until I get an assistant as my arms aren’t long enough to press the igniter and look at the igniter from outside😐

That’s a plan👍
(y) That was going to be my next suggestion if you can't determine for certain whether or not the igniter is working, (but as you've realised, you'll still need to find a friend to keep the knob pressed. ;))

Is the Van level? our Dometic appliance won't work on gas unless the van is level.
That will only affect its cooling efficiency.
The igniter will still function and the burner fire up even if not level. The OP's doesn't.
I'm not familiar with many fridges but I'm not aware of any fridge where being out of level disables the lighting process.
