Hi everyone, just wondering if I can travel with the blown air on while travelling, van is a Auto trail Imala 730 with a truma c/p which has electric 1 and electric 2 and a setting for a mix not that I would travel with the gas on, tried it the other day but nothing , anyone got any thoughts on this.

Electric is for when you are on hook up.

Providing you have a Secumotion gas regulator with crash protection and anti-rupture hoses or cylinders with anti-rupture valves built in its OK.

Otherwise just run the heating foe 20-30 min before setting off as once the van is up to temperature the cab heater should be able to maintain it.

Edit:
Only applies to gas.

Don’t know about your system but we can run the diesel system whilst moving.

or fit another heater, a diesel one

Unless you have a very long hookup lead it won't work on electric. The heating elements are 230vac

Always wondered if our diesel heated would work whilst on the move.

Rarely necessary, but some of the lads did run the night heaters on wagons. So I dont see an issue with running the gas versions. But as others have said you need to have the facility to auto cut off the gass supply in an emergency situation

Our Merc based Rapido uses the engine water system to allow a fan in the hab area to be used on the move ?

Our Alde system has a heat exchanger which uses the engine heat whilst running. I only fathomed how to use it a couple of weeks ago and it's brilliant.

That is a Rapido "option" and not found on all of them:(, as well as being a complex Retrofit. unfortunately. Similar system was however fitted to the Winnebago, and also Heated up the Water too, so after a run, bingo, hot water!.

We just drape a blanket across the back of the driver and passenger seats to keep the heat in the cab.

Fit a curtain between the cab area and the habitation side. Even a thin one will make a huge difference. Some stretchy curtain wire and cheap curtain for a few quid, sorted then easy to take down and store.

On some (most) "A" cabs there is already a curtain rail, whose normal use is for the Drop down bed?, maybe it could be repurposed?.

On Imalas the 12v power is disabled when the engine starts. The blown air is 12v powered, so no you cannot run it when travelling.

On our 2019 Pilote we can use the heating on gas while travelling but we do have a crash protection regulator fitted as standard. Never actually tried it as the cab heating is so efficient.

By mistake we did do a trip with the fridge on gas setting, seemed to work ok but wouldn't do it on purpose.

Alde system. Heat exchanger from the engine, with hot water of course. Brilliant!
Standard fitment on the MH

Another shout out for the Alde system. Uses the heat from the engine cooling system to heat the interior of the motorhome, so no gas needed when on the road.

Never had a problem keeping the van warm even in the coldest weather just with the normal cab heater.

I'm obviously doing something wrong.

Fiat could improve the next generation Ducato intended for MH conversion by fitting a better cab heater plus warm air duct(s) for rear passengers.

My 2002 VW T4 camper had this kind of heater system. How hard can it be. Instead there will be more FIAT electronic gizmos that we have managed without and probably don't want to pay extra for.

Heated front seats ... OK until you can't switch them off again. Try driving while not actually sitting down.

mini buses have diesel heaters in the back, and they work very well

We used to be able to have heating on in our 2013 Autotrail FB Tracker that had secumotion as standard, I suppose they did away with it in the Imala range to keep price down??
