Hearing aids

I got a small free Siemens one from Specsavers through an NHS referral. Can't see how a £2000 can be any better.
I have the same, no problem except as @ Pirana said have to put phone on speaker because it difficult to line up the two miniscule hole that transmit and receive

I’ve been wearing hearing aids for 15 years. My deafness was caused by 50 years of live concerts. Had many new sets through the NHS and my latest ones are Oticon Spirit and are brilliant. Three settings - normal, loop and auditoriums. The batteries are free and last 3 weeks. They work perfectly with my iPhone

Just had my NHS ones renewed. All singing and dancing, connect via bluetooth so can get incoming mobile phone calls etc directly through them if you want. Only wear them to watch TV as have a tinnitus problem mainly but they do help. I was referred, great service since then.
Getting upgrade in june hoping they are those bluetooth you mention

I got some new hearing aids, only had them in 2 days and heard from my mate in Australia 😁.

Seriously though I have complex hearing problems, and wear aids in both ears.
Specsavers should not be are not hearing specialist.
If you have hearing problems see your doctor first, it may be you have other things going on.
Remember Specsavers are out to make money.
In our area the hospital now refer to specsavers as official suppliers

I’ve got Widex Evoke which cost around 3k, after years of denying l was going deaf, l thought perhaps l was in one ear, however, after the tests I was told l was partially deaf in both ears so l committed and bought them.
They work via my iPhone and have a multitude of settings including a varied pitch of sounds dependent on your surroundings and so on, do l use them? Very rarely l just cannot get along with them in one year l have had them on perhaps ten times, connecting them via the iPhone is so frustrating as it’s not seamless. I am still constantly asking people to repeat themselves and watching TV is a nightmare. I am sure people will advise perseverance but l feel very disappointed and have give up,

I have a pair of Oticon aides, amazing sound quality and control but they were mightily expensive but as she that must be obeyed said, “you wouldn’t think twice about paying that sort of money to buy a new secondhand shotgun.....” can’t live with or without her.
Clever woman i.e. you can't shoot her with hearing aids and less money to spend on guns ;-)

Sounds similar to Mrs Fraser, she told guy doing test she was harder of hearing in one ear compared to the other only to be told her levels were the same in both. Got the aids for both but now doesn't wear them as everything sounded too loud at work, said the sound of the photocopier drove her nuts so now back to having to repeat everything for her when she doesn't catch sentences on the tele :(

How long do you have to wait until you can apply for another set? I know I need to get my ears tested again as it’s been almost 3 years since getting my first set of hearing aids.......but I think I’m on a downward hearing spiral and my current ones may need some tweaking.

Wow, l reckon you are a thoughtful guy to have to the patience and perseverance to support her as is my wife.

Mine as two settings to allow me to change the sound depending on noise level / type. Also a volume control.......turn them right down in pubs (remember them) and in the car, half way for tv.......but need to have another test.

I have a NHS hearing test at Specsaver in a couple of weeks. I hope NHS ones work for me, the only problem I really have is when watching TV dramas & films OK I sometimes have ask people to repeat what they say but it's not that bad.
I tried Specsavers a year or two ago. Told me there was nothing wrong despite family keep telling me I'm going deaf and some films are more like mumbling than speech.

Must try and get an appointment via doctors for a 'proper test'. I won't be going back to Specsavers.

I use head phone to hear the TV. This then does not disturb others who can listen at there normal volume. (y)

Trouble is, you then can’t hear if someone speaks to you......I use headphones to hear the tv too, but it is very ‘isolating’, if you get my drift.......?!:(

I think I know the answer, but has anyone found hearing aids reduce tinnitus?

Yes, I don't have any problems while wearing them but it usually comes back shortly after taking them out.

You sound the same as me.
It's the doctor thats sending me to Specsavers, they say it's a 60 min test.

Let us know how it go's - I'm waiting for an NHS appointment.
I sure there are many on here are in the same gang.
Do you think its age related??? :Eeek: :Eeek:

My test at the hospital was an hour...
MInes only 60 minutes.

It's not until the 16th. Yer old age, probably doesn't help doing the sound mixing for bands when I was young.

After reading this I've been referred to Specsavers as my original hearing aids are tinny and we have moved to a different county and Specsavers won't touch anyone elses products to fix them.Ive also got to ask my husband to relay what has been said on TV but he agreed that the aids sound tinny.

Yes, the only way I can hear what is being said on tv most of the time is with headphones on.....but that is very antisocial for others (SWMBO) sitting with me, imho........

Hi have the Widex Moment and they are the best aids i have had,i have been wearing HA for 18 years.

I have an app on my iPhone so you can many adjustments as required.

As with any HA you have to wear them for a long time so your brain gets used to them or you won't get the benefit .

Thank you for trying to assist through your own experience, however,as you can see in my post, the ones l have,do provide all these features but are simply not user friendly the farce of trying to get them to connect through my iPhone via Bluetooth is farcical and takes many minutes of messing and most often it fails and l pack it in.
Just to say l am very familiar with todays technology and very used to how it all works.
l am happy to note you are satisfied with your set up but it’s not for me.

Fair enough perhaps you should keep going back to your audiologist as you have spent a lot of money and need to get it sorted.

An update.....
I contacted Audiology (NHS) wrt getting Bluetooth ‘aids, but, as mine are relatively new, I would have to pay to replace them - as it would be mainly for TV watching, I couldn’t really justify the expense.........
So, I’ve bought a pair of AirPods Pro (Apple, £200) which have a ‘transparency’ feature whereby, if selected, the external microphones on the AirPods used normally for ANC - Active Noise Cancellation which blocks-out external noises - are left active and amplify external sounds (voices, etc) to allow you to ‘connect with your environment’ - i.e., you can hear what’s going on around you.
Tried them last night watching Midsomer Murders (sorry!) with Jac, and we could still have a conversation! They worked a treat, and should last long enough until I’m due for my next hearing aid upgrade (NHS recommend changing every 4 to 5 years).
Of course, you have to remove your existing aids to wear the AirPods, but I had to do that with my Bose QC35 headphones anyway or get terrible feedback, so no problem there.
Hope this may help others in a similar situation. (y)

Got NHS hearing aids. Found them really good at reducing my tinnitus. Lost one of them outside when taking Covid mask off didn't realise it got tangled in the mask. Phoned the hospital and they sent me a new one with 2boxes of batteries (years supply). Was told the hearing aids cost £1500 each. All I had to pay was £25 to replace the lost hearing aid
