We're hoping to go to Ireland this year but wondered if you need health insurance for Northern Ireland? I presume you do for Southern Ireland.
Any advice please anyone?
Steph

Northern Ireland is the same as UK. You can use EHIC in Southern Ireland plus travel insurance, although if you're near the boarder you could just nip across the border!

Just rang the Irish Embassy who confirmed that UK citizens have full healthcare in Republic of Ireland under reciprocal agreement which is great as my partner can't get full medical insurance at present.

Have you checked your breakdown cover?

Yes. We're covered by Safeguard for the motorhome insurance and the breakdown cover in all EU countries and the UK. Who knows though what will happen when Brexit takes hold!

The arrangements between the UK and ROI go back over several agreements to 1923, so long precede any EU agreements.

I thought most people would have known about them.

Not if you've not been to the Republic of Ireland before or studied the history!

Not if you've not been to the Republic of Ireland before or studied the history!

In all my working career I have known that Irish workers did not need work permits to work in UK or to immigrate to UK and I also knew about the reason - the Common Travel Area.

My only visits to ROI were to land and Take-off at Dublin and I have not studied the history.
