I have a lot of media on my laptop and have previously connected this to a tv when we've been away successfully. Just bought a new TV Avtex L219DRS and am not receiving any sound when the laptop is connected via HDMI. . I've tried Avtex support but their opening hours don't align with my availability.
The problem is with hearing playback of audio from a laptop connected to the tv via HDMI.
I have tried / observed the following:
Video is shown on tv but no audio when connected via hdmi
Tv sound works when watching tv and dvd's
HDMI cable works with other devices
Laptop connected to different TV via same hdmi cable works fine
I've tried both HDMI and HDMI (arc) inputs
Avtex tv is not recognised in laptop sound settings as an audio device when connected although other tv's are
I've tried various HDMI settings on the TV menu and restarted it numerous times

I'm at a loss. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Mike

If say you connect your laptop to another TV with the same hdmi lead and it works fine but then when you plug the same set up into the avtex TV and you get no audio, then I would say its a setting in the avtex deciding not to use the audio feed from the hdmi cable. So check check and recheck sound settings on the TV, I doubt its a Windows problem if the audio works fine on another tv.

I'm inclined to agree but there are very few settings on the tv and I thought I'd tried every permutation. Anyhow I'll have another go at the TV HDMI settings.
Thanks

As I said there isn't an issue when I connect to another TV
I missed that bit so it's got to be the TV. Easy solution run a lead from the headphone output to the TV, hopefully it doesn't disable audio in if an HDMI cable is connected.

Some TV just take the HDMI audio immediately...................on ours a few minutes after connection we need to click on the audio icon bottom right and there is a drop down box with the laptop audio as per usual and then above, the name of the TV speakers, which you need to select

Thanks for all your suggestions. To get around the issue (I didn't like the trailing wire anyway but hate being stymied by things that should just work) I've plugged my Roku stick into the TV HDMI port and now stream from my Laptop media server using the Plex app - no wires and uses internal wifi

Same issue with Avtex DRS199 as well. Not just PC connection but Samsung S8 and S9. Great picture but no audio.
All works fine on LG, Toshiba, Panasonic TVs.
Avtex are taking my set back as there may be an update they can do.

Are you using a sound bar on the AvTex

No. Just the L199DRS TV.
Roku stick works fine though...

I was using the Panasonic Smart TV connected to my Windows 10 laptop.

It was Inspirion 15 plus. I thought there was some problem in my device itself.
Checked the HDMI cables couple of times.

Then came to know that your HDMI input has to be the default playback device in Windows 10 sound settings.
Just worked amazingly. how to get sound from laptop to tv with hdmi windows 10

When I connect our fire stick to my avtex I often have no sound , the way I get round it is to play a dvd then remove it & that seems to jumpstart the sound , but I would like to know if anybody has a fix for me
