Hi All
The hab door on my 2018 rapido wont open form the outside ok from inside any suggestions.
Thanks

If the lock looks like the photo below it’s probable that a small metal casting has broken off.
If you look at the picture of the inside you will see a small 90° bar that pushes on another bar to open the door.
There should be two, one either side, but in the picture the one on the rhs has snapped off.
A common problem on those locks which are used on a lot of vans.

Richard.

I Am i right in thinking one of our funsters makes these pins?

Not sure about that but I do know that some have drilled through the casting and put a small nut and bolt through.
Been meaning to try that on my old broken one that’s cluttering up my bench in the garage.

Thanks for the help everyone I will have a look next week

I’m aware this is a 3 year old thread but we have just suffered the same problem with our Hartal lock. i.e. we cant open from outside.
Is it possible to remove the lock without removing the whole interior door mechanism?

We have just a month ago simply replaced the handle , having had the same problem as you.
I recollect just 4 screws

But presumably, you have to remove the trim from the door in order to access the 4 screws?

remove the long handle and the trim round the internal latch release. The beige part then pulls off. You can then access the screws holding the outer handle. No need to disturb anything else. 5 minute job to take it off. Maybe 20 minutes to file, drill and insert nut and bolt and the same to put back together

There should be 2x screws holding the handle in under the plastic screw covers like this.

forgot to say the inner handle surround has a single small screw

yes, remove the trim and 4 screws will allow you to remove the outside handle

Thanks. Wasn’t aware this was such a frequent issue with Hartal locks. Might be prudent to do the other side lug at the same time? Or if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

If it ain''t broke it probably wont break. It has 2 lugs so the handle could be used left or right hand opening. One tends to fail not the other. I used an M3 cap head screw and nut. I ever drilled and tapped the aluminium but think it overkill

I know what drilled is but what is tapping? Sorry, not very mechanically minded.
If you don't know how to tap a thread into the aluminium, skip that and just use a nyloc nut to stop it working loose. Most people have never cut threads as a diy skill, but can drill a hole fairly straight

FYI Ingwe I picked up a brand new replacement handle on eBay for about £60
I was quoted £150 by a dealer ….

Everyday is a learning day!👍

This is a heads-up and thanks to Stealaway. He repaired my broken Hartal door lock and the whole process from posting to him and receiving the repaired unit back was three days!
He was able to make the repair even though the design of my lock was somewhat different to the other Hartal locks he’d repaired.
So thanks to him and others too whose contributions help us all. 👍

So did he ,.’weld’ the broken lug back on ?

No, he drilled into the side of the casing from where the lug had snapped off and added a bolt.

I don’t think it’s anything to do with the repair but when I put everything back again, the door closes and catches but won’t lock with either the key or the central locking. 🤔

If I was you I’d bite the bullet and spent £60 on a new one off eBay…….
The one we bought appears more robust too than the previous

take the handle back off and turn the key then reinstall making sure the locking rod is clipped in place
