Today on the A27 near Portsmouth wagon passed me and threw up a massive rock at my windscreen 🤬🤬🤬 well a small one, so now I have to go into Southampton on Friday when I should be arriving at the Pop up site by the Beaulieu Motor Museum and collecting our tickets to get in the museum etc. To say I was p@ssed off would be mild, Dee on the other hand flapped like a pheasant and I had to pick her off the van ceiling 🥴🥴

Funny how the the crack travelling 9oclock to 7oclock has extended in the space of an hour more of travelling by at least 2 inches.
Shouldn’t complain this is the first time in 36500 mikes in the va.

Had to replace mine twice since I bought 10 years ago, the last time however I ignored the insurance and used a local one who came to the house. It cost £175 instead of paying the £100 excess but at least I don’t have it as a claim on future insurance

Odd, windscreen repairs should not effect your ‘NCD’! If it does then you need to move insurance.

Oh Please!.. feel for you. Picked up a new car , ( used but new if you know what I mean) from the dealer, drove it off the forecourt , literally 100metres down the road and lorry went past and did the same. …… gutted wasn’t in it…glad you had no injuries

That’s a real bummer ! I would think the car was jinxed 🤪
It goes down as a claim when you answer the question about any previous claims.
Maybe so but does not affect your NCD, check the T+C’s 👍🏻

I never said that it did but you have to declare any claims in the previous 5 year period so it may or may not affect the base price before discount for five years. You also have to declare it on any other vehicle insurance that you apply for not just your van.

It was sickening, it took away that ‘new car’ feeling…
I know the feeling, ie, when we picked up out brand new (HM Forces Duty Free) Mazda 323 in Cyprus some years ago, we were given a fuel voucher by the dealer, to be used at the filling station down the road.
We pulled in and were attended to by a member of staff..................................who removed the nozzle from the pump and immediately hit the bodywork close to the fuel filler flap, creating a blooming great chip out of the bright red shiny paintwork. Barsteward. :madder:

Jock. :(

Windscreen dings are never good...HOWEVER this one seems to be on the side of screen and not impeding drives vision.
So I pesonaly would have went to Buielieu (gosh that don't look right), and then worried a boot ma windae later. 😎😎😎

I initially thought I would go to Beaulieu and see if they would let me use the Ford GT-40 for a few days whilst AutoGlass took the van away for repair but I expect I was dreaming 🤭🤭🤭

Do autoglass still operate without premises ? Work on your drive

Discovered a crack in our new vans windscreen yesterday. Circa 1700 miles. On the road in Europe

I remember them going off before they were laminated. What a mess, bits of glass came out the heater forever afterwards.
I had half a brick thrown through the front windscreen of my 1976 mini during "the troubles"
I was doing about 40mph at the time and the windscreen went into a million pieces with the half brick ending up on the rear parcel shelf.
A frightening experience at the time and if anyone had been in the passenger seat they would have been seriously injured.
I was still finding glass in that car two years later!

Similar when I bought my pride and joy some years ago. Brick off the back of a skip lorry. £2k of damage.

Sorry to hear your woes. If brick was from lorry and you have reg you could claim. For the hassle factor and screen xs probably not worth it.

Really frustrating for you though 😔

Picked up our new (then) motorhome in June 2017. First trip abroad in France on way to Switzerland, truck passed us in opp direction and stone put a chip the size of a 2p coin. Fortunately covered by insurance and the AutoGlass equivalent in Bern replaced. Apart from the insurance excess (£100) the process was fuss free.

I have 2 bullet holes in my Burstner Elegance screen. I really should look into getting them fixed before they expand.

My screen was hit by a rock trapped between tyres on a truck....I was on my motorbike at the time and the screen was my helmet visor

@ASR.. probably worth finding out who's shooting at you

They still do them on your driveway 😊

We had ours cracked on Orkney 3 weeks ago. No one could replace it there for 2 weeks, by which time we would be in Shetland. So I did a DIY fix and am on my way to Inverness tomorrow to have it replaced. Clear Duck tape - no spread since I applied it😊

20 years ago a few idiots threw a brick off a motorway bridge onto my car windscreen. Luckily it bounced off rather than go through. I came off at the next junction and went looking for them but they had vanished. Frightened the hell out of me and ever since I am wary of people standing on bridges as I pass underneath.

Hi, I agree with you on that, In the 70's I was driving a truck and off a m'way bridge came what looked to me like a big lump of mud. I put on the wipers and 5 miles on I had used all the water in the screen washers and it was still a horrible mess all over the screen. When I stopped I found out to my dismay it was Poo!!. That was fun to clean it off.
Years later a really nice guy I worked with had a brick dropped off a bridge, It went through the screen and hit him square on the chest. When the motorway services crew came out to see why he was asleep on the hard shoulder he was dead, had a massive heart attack.
Ever since the first time it happened to me I ALWAYS watch bridges on motorways, if I see anyone standing there I check my mirrors and if it's clear I change lanes a few hundred yards before the bridge to be on the safe side. I have done that since the 70's, you never forget.
Bruce.

Similar thing happened to us on Saturday, we were only 10 miles from home, after a really good trip up North over 800 miles of driving, we were saying how well it had gone, no hiccups or problems and 'bang'! We have a small circular stonechip at the bottom of the windscreen.. A chap came to inspect it today and it needs a replacement but he said its safe to drive. Good job too as we can't get it done for 2 weeks and are off to Highlands End on Thursday!

I had the same. First day I had the car before present one. A truck flicked up a stone and the windscreen cracked from side to side in seconds.

All sorted, only took them 1 hour from start to finish, but then as we left there was some horrendous noises coming from the overhead parcel shelf, sounded as though it was rubbing against the glass So straight back into workshop and fitted piece of silicone pad to stop it. All is fine now, never had a screen so clean.
