After several happy years with "Shield" insurance I phoned to check that we would be Ok for a five month trip. Yes it would be but I could only have 45 days breakdown cover. Ooops! I spent four months last year without checking or being covered most of the time (which is apparently not a problem unless I had broken down).
I phoned "Safeguard" and for the same price I can have 365 days breakdown cover.
I like "Safeguard" now.

Saga do MH insurance with breakdown cover also. Might be worthwhile comparing.

I can have 365 days breakdown cover.
But is that continuous cover or is there a time limit per trip with no limit to the number of trips per 365 days.

Sometimes it's the way it's worded which needs explaining, not the words.

I had to change mine as well. Still with insure&go but realised they only covered motorcycles up to 125cc not much good for my super Tenere. They only added £20. Thought that was a good deal. Just to be clear, that’s travel insurance.

Can't remember or find where I read it but I think Safeguard are one of the few that offer no time limits in Europe. But as you say well worth checking as most that do say 365 days do just mean 60/90 days then return. No good if you've got your feet up on the beach somewhere lol.

Although very expensive, the RAC through the Camping and Caravanning Club, branded 'Arrival', provides continental breakdown cover for trips of up to 350 days.

I was with SAGA for many years but when I changed to a more valuable mh they wanted to impose impossible restrictions. I then insured with Safeguard and was very happy with them. However after 3 years of increases they started to look very expensive. Having shopped around I contacted the Brockenhurst Branch of NFU. My details were taken but the agent said they were not always the cheapest because they did not discount new business and then recover it on subsequent renewals, also they would not include recovery. Despite their warnings and allowing for buying separate recovery I saved about £300. Unlimited windscreen cover included, which matters on an A Class.

I have now added a car to the policy and saved another £30. NFU does seem to be post code sensitive and some of their franchised branches appear to not want mh business (it is usually small stuff compared to agricultural machinery). However for me it has proved very cost effective.

I specifically asked whether 365 days was exactly as described and was assured that is exactly what it means. I tried NFU who have an excellent reputation but in spite of living in a quiet country zone, their quote was actually double what I now pay.

Perhaps that is because your location is “The City of Henlow” :) would it be cheaper if you lived in the Civil Parish of Henlow?

Surely 365 days means fulltime, but not a fulltimers policy??

Too many variables with vehicle insurance. You just have to contact various insurers and see whats good for you.

You might of found that your insurance was invalid as I have read of people that have been out of the country more than the maximum allowed days for health insurance to be told their insurance was cancelled for exceeding the limit .
