The ferry from Santander only now goes to Plymouth and not to Portsmouth, we have to now travel to cross from Bilbao, I need suggestions where to over night as the ferry leaves at 10:30am never been from Bilbao before. The Santander to Portsmouth is for the rest of the season. Many thanks for any suggestions, I have looked a camper contact etc but just need a recommendation.we have a overall length of eight metres.

You can stay on the dock but beware of immigrants trying to attach themselves to your van. You can book in the day before your sailing as the kiosks are open about 4.
There is a cafe and toilets on site.

Exactly as he said!

We did that in March. No problems with immigrants - there was security around. And a friendly policeman popped inside the van next morning to check us over.

There is a cheap fuel station close to the very last roundabout on entering the dock - we filled up with diesel because it was much less than at home. As I recall, we treated the van to the premium grade as it was only 1 cent a litre more than standard. I think we paid 1 euro 14 cents, so circa £1 a litre at the time.

And there are steps leading 'Up the Wall', out of the dock to the local vibrant community where you do some last minute slurping, eating and shopping.

I mentioned the friendly policeman - it was quite funny really. I think he was carrying various items, perhaps a radio and a torch, and possibly a clipboard too.

As he was about to leave he asked a question in Spanish, which I hadn't got a clue what he wanted? It had started to rain heavily and - after much gesticulating - worked out he wanted me to release the hood on his coat which was rolled up in the collar, and put it on his head for him...:giggle:

If you're looking for an alternative to dockside parking, there is a very good aire on the hill overlooking the city. Campercontact 10426 €15/night. Stayed there a couple of weeks ago(y)

My wife likes the campsite on the hill

I have a Santander Portsmouth ferry booked for the 23rd, are you saying there is a chance it will be cancelled?

You need to go to there website it says that it is only going to Plymouth not Portsmouth for the rest of the season

Park at the check in at Bilbao, the check opens the evening prior to the morning sailing and you won’t be alone there will be at least another 70+MH’s. The Cafe opens and the odd few socialise a little.
