Habitation Door

If fiat based the fuse is at the bottom of the right hand door pillar behind a cover at the rear of the seat

We had the same on our van and we were advised to clean the contacts with a little white spirit which worked! That was the first Pilote van. The current van also Pilote had the same issue but this time the wires behind the contacts had come away. Luckily we had a guy at the time working on the van and he fixed it basically a 10 minute job.

Another common problem is a wire breaking in the loom that goes the door.

As post #3, it's common that the contacts on the hab door and frame need frequently cleaned with something like Isopropanol Alcohol. Had this same issue on my Pilote G740c and cleaning the contacts worked.

I also recall that there was an occasion when the central locking failed and needed reset. I can't remember the exact details but I think it was something like; Push the lock button on the lower dashboard console to lock then unlock the doors; then lock the hab door from inside by pushing the lock handle inwards; then unlock the doors with the key fob.

If all of this does not work then as suggested in post #4, check the wiring in the loom to the door.

If it's not electrical it may be a broken return spring in the lock mechanism. That's what with ours.

Had similar problem with our hab door wouldn't lock on either central locking or by the key ,it turned out to be the lock mechanism ,inside it there is a pin that locates inside a small plastic tube like thing somehow it had managed to come out , all fixed now by dealer took all of 10 minutes.

Our Pilote hab door has given up the ghost as well! We are unable to lock it manually. Going for a hab check and repair very soon.

hi DumfriesDik, ours is also a Pilote sounds like you have the same problem as us ,it's a quick fix unless the tube thingy is broken.

Hi hab door wont lock on central locking only with key.
Perfectly ok when we used at is the door fused?
Fiat Ducato Bavaria A Class.

Simon,

This sounds like your problem. Here's the fix in picture form ; posts 11 onwards refer.

All the best,

Andrew

Thanks Andrew i will have a look. Tried the locking and unlocking but no good.

Did you manage to unscrew the contacts as I reckon you have a broken wire; an easy fix though ;-)

Ours broke last year, I stripped it down and seen that the plastic claw lug had broken. Welded a new steel lug, it’s stronger than before .

And the door has come back to life without any assistance. You've gotta love intermittent faults!

Is it worth getting something repaired that is working just fine?? Pesky first world problems, I hate them.

Just removed door contacts and bottom wire has come away . Very thin wire no wonder. Need a tiny allen key i think ( not got any in van next purchase) and i think i can fix it.

Just as I suspected. To fix it properly you'll need to refer to my post (#11) above.

You'll be able to do a temporary fix but it won't hold for long.

This is a very familiar problem with the Pilote/Bavaria vans. The four wires are just too tightly connected so the ever moving contacts will soon break them away from the back of the contact mounts.

You'll need to follow the repair advice in post-11 above which means taking the inside door trim off and unwinding the four wrapped wires so that they better stretch through the door aperture to the contacts.

Good luck and please post-up if you need any help.

Andrew

Thanks Andrew. I have just re connected for now and it works. I will see how it goes but cant see it lasting long the wires are too fine.
