What is wrong with some motorhomers!!
We were at the show at Shelton Mallet over the weekend and yesterday there were countless motorhomes driving on the Showground roads on their way to the Exit with their Grey waste taps open and waste spilling out, my frustration was that they left the showground without closing the taps! so continued spilling their waste on the main road!!
Why did they not ged rid of their waste on the grass!!

Maybe they parked out of level so the tank could not empty properly on there pitch.

I’m wondering why, according to the OP, it would be more acceptable to get rid of grey water on grass but not on the road. I’d be a bit less happy if I was to occupy a pitch sodden with grey water than seeing it spill harmlessly into tarmac.

If you ride a motorbike it makes the road very slippy and could cause an accident.

I’ve never bought into that one. I rode a motorbike for 25 years in London. Ridden through oil, diesel, dog shit, vomit, ice, car wash suds etc. None of these are as slippy as a dewy wet white line. :)

Some drive passed motorhome service points to make sure they dump on tarmac 🤬

I hope the OP doesn't mind me answering but, if it is done the night before you leave, with the weather we have had lately, it would have soaked into the ground by morning and, as there will be no-one camping at the showground for a few days, no-one will be affected.

Grey water steaming down the road because Funsters, and others, cannot be bothered to get rid of their waste responsibly, is not the image we want to give to the general public.
Is there any wonder Councils do not want M/H parking in their area?

PS. We very rarely see caravans  leaving sites with water pouring out their waste, so why do we??

Yet we don't give a toss about farm lorrys dribbling piss out the back, Horse boxes doing the same, Fish lorries leaving miles of smelly lines away from the fishing ports around the Country

Maybe they forgot!
IMO The public still see it as antisocial, The amount of times Ive been going up country lanes in a lorry to see Joe Public shaking their heads and tutting - Perhaps they don't want to eat veg?

If “countless” motorhomers were, as reported, allowing their grey water to drain on the road rather than their pitches, it seems to be acceptable practice to many. As when I was caravanning, there are always those who will find something to disapprove of. Wouldn’t imagine many motorbikes were driving around the showground.
It wasn’t black waste, just some washing up water safe enough that we’re asked to put it on our flowers in a drought.

My parents had a farm and I cannot remember a time when our lorry had piss dribbling out of it's back, from where?
Vegtables don't piss?

You may be talking about Contractors who pickup the liquid manure, from dairy farms, for spreading
In most cases, that's not the farmers.

Difficult to give closure on this thread. There are no rules laid down at most meetings as far as I know. Where there is thick grass, most grey waste is fairly harmless. It is not allowed to empty grey waste down street drains, why? On dust roads at showgrounds it can settle dust. So why do I creep out at night to allow a gentle dribble onto some fields but never at Quakers lovely field, honestly.

For those of you who wash your cars/ vans, what do you do with the soapy water?

Not that I wash mine very often but when I do, it goes down the drain/soakaway purposely built in my driveway.
The waste from the house sink, shower etc. goes into a sewage system purposely built by the water board. Why do you ask?

My introduction to MH rallies was Chester many years ago, on leaving day I was very surprised to see quite a few driving down the exit road spilling grey water alongside people walking on and out of the racecourse and food fair, funsters and general camping both guilty

It might only be residual amounts but it didn’t look like it, as one passed me I actually felt a splash on my leg 🤮 a rare sunny Easter 🤔

When pulling out onto the road there were several wet streaks up the road

Disgusting habit IMO and sets a bad example for no obvious benefit, I would think the volume still coming out would have been visible in mirrors 🙁

For those claiming their grey waste is seemingly better than tap water, try filling a cup and pouring over your windscreen 🤔

Why do apparently most motorhomers appear to have a liquid with the toxic characteristics of degraded plutonium? Mine has a bit of mucky water.

Too me, I think it's a much the not knowing what the waste water contains and the image we give to the general public that I disapprove of.
Especially when, as happened at Shepton Mallet last year, M/H's drove past a waste disposal point in the showground to get to the exit!

Too me, this shows lack of respect to the site owners and, of course, cost us extra if the site/showground owners have to buy washer/sweepers/staff to clean the roads later!

The arguments for this have been done to death now. Some let it go on the grass if allowed i do some dont thinking they are discharging nuclear waste.
We had drought conditions this year so even more importantly imo to let it go on the grass.
I have just been to a festival the camping area was full of sheep droppings .
5 mins with a brush all sorted no bleating from me.

How does the OP know the were all dumping grey water, it could have been clean water from the tanks no longer needed couldn't it, and are we talking a short dribble or a lengthy full flow I wonder.

tbf the livestock ones do. you dont want to be following one of them on a motorcycle

I had a couple glaring at me when I stopped recently just outside one of our quarries with water draining out the van.
They stood staring and obviously annoyed that I was draining my tank but didn’t say anything. While I was waiting for somebody I causally walked round to the drain point with a glass put it under the drain filled it up and drank it in front of them. They stared in disgust and walked off shaking their heads.
I couldn’t see the problem drinking from my fresh water tank as it drained but they obviously did, I was going to point out they were actually on our land and could they move but I thought I had upset them enough already.
Just because people are draining as they drive off it may not be dirty water😉

I think this is the problem, how is an observer supposed to know if its waste-water, clean water or toilet waste which most of the public, unless they own a M/H, do!

Why would anyone waste perfectly good clean water thinks they??

When I left Shepton Mallet last year, it was a small stream in the showground and wet public road for about half a mile. (n)

Just a question, as I never attended the show. Did the organisers give any advice about grey water.?

As a newbie - grey water is confusing. Just been on a CL, no signs for grey so left it on board and will empty at tonight’s c&cc site. Last week at CL person next to us said to just empty on the grass, so I did a loop of the field to empty before we went on the road (though I left tap open). What is the done thing when no Motorhome service point?
