Is this a Greenfinch or is it one of the tit family.

You can tell its a member of the finch family by the shape of its powerful beak. Tits generally have a more slender version.

You only need look at the beak to see it's a Finch, all have the same for cracking seeds.

Greenfinch. Used to be quite common but nowadays see hardly any.

Yup, male greenfinch. We're lucky to have a healthy resident garden flock.

Thanks the reason i ask is I don't normally get them in my garden however ive had two coming and feeding for a while.

Come to Spain I am inundated with them.
I can understand why they are declining, it is difficult to imagine a more argumentative bird, they literally hate each other.

Lucky Spain.

Round here they were decimated by a virus. Not avian flu, this virus was species-specific. The few survivors are not breeding fast enough.

Lovely birds with an awful screeching call, should have something much more tuneful 👍😁

The main spreader of the disease in gardens are the bird water baths it is essential to clean and replenish as often as possible I do mine every day and when I'm not at home empty them
