As we are off to Spain shortly for the Winter I have just ordered my green card from Safeguard. They are organizing one and will send it to me in the post.
So if you will be out of the country after 31st October, maybe you should get your green card now, as you won't be able to get one if you are already out the country.

Don't know what to do about health insurance.

What will you be doing?

Comfort won’t issue them until 3 weeks before you leave the country at the moment. We get our new van 10 days before we leave the country and they (Comfort) are transferring the insurance but will only issue the green card when we phone on the day of collection of the new van, they all have their own rules! We are just hoping the V5 is sorted as well.

Regarding travel insurance it really depends on what you deem acceptable risk. We would not have dreamt of travelling without medical travel insurance in Europe even without Bxxxxx , not that I have a problem with the care but the fact that if I or Nick were left incapacitated by a stroke or similar, I would want to be at home where I could understand the language so I pay for insurance to cover repatriation.
Lots of European countries don’t have free care, the EHIC only entitled you to what the locals got so in some countries that does involve paying for certain things anyway.
