For those that aren't aware the Manchester low emission zone is going to be the biggest in the country affecting trucks and buses from May 2022 and all other diesel commercial vehicles except Euro 6 from May 2023.
It's massive
I was quite surprised to see this will include motorhomes
What this means is if you leave a motorway or major trunk road in the greater manchester area you get pinged on the ANPR for a £10 fee, no notification, it's up to you to pay it , if it's the same as Runcorn bridge and it's not paid by midnight the following day it goes to a fine, they're saying £120 reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days.
It's so easy to drive over the bridge and completely forget to pay the £2 fee , a system that worked well for them generating £6.6m in fines in 9 months
A whopping £6.6m in revenue was generated from Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) issued between the opening of the Mersey Gateway Bridge in October to June this year.
According to Merseyflow’s own figures, 549,000 PCNs were issued between October 2017 and June 2018.
Each PCN is £20 for each single crossing plus the £2 tariff. So if a commuter has crossed both ways to and from work and not paid the toll by midnight the next day they are liable to pay £44.
I'm expecting this to be based on the same model, forget to pay and it's £60 when you get the letter, £120 if you're away from home for more than 2 weeks
So if I stay for one night in my euro 5 motorhome at a campsite in the greater manchester area it's £10 to drive in and £10 to drive out , the guy next to me in a 4.2L Range rover towing a caravan travels for free
This is as clear as mud , my V5C just reads Motor Caravan, section J is blank , No M1 or N1 and the online checker under vehicle type approval just reads 'not available'
