much appreciated I have been all over I shall look them up

Sorry to state the obvious but have you tried a different cable

Try the ViaMichelin app it’s very good with route options, costs. Speed limits etc etc, or maybe there is a free trial on sygic truck which is what we use

Just maybe, when you turned it off it did not turn off and the internal battery is flat.
Try leaving it plugged in for ½hr but make no attempt to turn on in that time. .

Try Google maps on you phone/tablet.

You could try one of the phone satnav apps that offer a free weeks trial and see if you like it

Normally sat navs have a 'reset' button that you need to push with a pin. That should reboot it.

whatever app you use make sure speed cameras are turned off whilst in France, it's probably unlikely that they would catch you using it but it is illegal, just so you know.

Just to back up what pappajohn said.
I thought my Garmin was dead and buried but left it plugged in for an hour or so and it magically came back to life.
It seems that if the internal battery goes completely flat it takes a fair time to bring it back to life. Just plugging into a power source won’t allow it to start up.

Richard.

One that I have and found reliable, as well as Google maps is HereWeGo from the app store on android free to use. And download maps needed for offline use pretty good and can route plan.
That and search for sites mostly what I use.

As above, we had same with ours, wouldn’t switch on but kept it on charge and it came back to life after 20 mins ish

If it's a Garmin then give it an hour on charge as recommended, then if it won't restart try turning it on again but hold the power button for at least 10 seconds then release the button. If that fails, and depending on the model, try turning it on whilst pressing firmly on the top right hand corner of the screen.

If that lot doesn’t work revert to SuperMike advice at post #17.

Richard.

I will try anything once

Our tomtom go camper suddenly switched off in France for no apparent reason, I think it got too hot.
Switched it back on and it’s been fine since.

I think Mike is right. Tried all suggestions. But to no avail. Looks like I will have to splash the cash. Thanks all for the suggestions

Oops! I just saw the Carrefour sign, and they're usually a huge store with electronics and groceries??? :)

No it's a Tom Tom it was on sale. Got it for 159.99euro instead of 179.99euro. My last one was a Garmin so I will have to get used to this one. It's got all I need so should be OK.

as stated ive had this issue with tomtom and garmin i just googled the instructions for a Hard Reboot and it turned out fine after als Use Waze download the App

I will give it a try when I get home. Somebody has suggested plugging it in and leaving it for twenty four hours so I will do that and then connect to computer and try download
