Returning to a motorhome.
Next month ish we are going to take "Stumpy" (Autocruise Vista) on its first proper trip. We are heading up North from West Cornwall, with Scotland the target. We have a month available if we can survive that long without killing each other. Stumpy came from a "dealer" in Scotland and has cost a fortune to put right and apart from throwing a brick through his window, can anyone suggest the best must see places in Scotland (never been properly) and on the way up or down - some we might have seen. We are on a budget that is tight and want to stay in as many free or cheap places as we can, with plug in and empty sites kept to a minimum, so tucked away places we can hide for a night or two, or places with stunning scenery and or interesting things to see are our preference. We are both crafts people so are interest in all arty stuff. Oh, and I don't fancy being eaten by midges, is it possible to visit Scotland in June/July without deciding never to go again?

Google 'Wildcamping Motorhome' and get ideas from them

Solar panel, decent batteries, own facilities, refillable gas system and the World is your lobster ...........

If you do the Devil’s Porridge Museum, head west on the A75 to Kirkcudbright (The Artists Town).
Commercial site in town or a popular overnight spot near the marina, free galleries, museum, excellent chippy and a small Tesco and Co-Op if you need to restock.

And if you are going Dumfries way stop at Glencaple and Caeverñick Castle corner which is a free aire with all facilities. Just put a donation in the honesty box.

If you have refillable gas and want to do the NC500 there is nowhere to fill up between Ullapool and Wick (at least). So fill up before hitting the North coast.

Depends which parts of Scotland your going..it isn't that small a place lol

Personally I'd reccomend the West side from the border all the way up loads of places to stop

If you haven't got it already get the park4night app on your phone.

Yes definitely best to download the park4night app. It'll give you plenty of free options (y)

Don't forget the far north east, no midges, lovely beaches and loads of spaces to camp without being disturbed.

Just read a piece in the Guardian online travel section, seems the NC500 is a victim of it's own success with the increase in traffic/people and subsequent impact on local resources. Some interesting comments from locals especially incidents of roofing tacks being strewn on the road and parking areas left in a mess.
On a brighter note we travelled up there (by car) to Orkney a number of years ago and were bowled over by the beaches and scenery, worth a visit to the Glenmorangie distillery even if you don't drink whisky.

Watch out for the school holidays and try to end up in more remote areas then or inland as it will be hard to find wilding olaces if its packed
