Hi, one day I think let’s go, the next no should stay. So torn. For those who have used the tunnel, was it same as always going. Coming back after Q14 what checks are taken? Have looked at the on line declaration, seems it’s just a track and trace if anyone was positive they would contact you, which seems not likely with eurotunnel.
i know rates have gone up in France, but uk still has more cases and deaths in total than France. Also cases now in younger people (partying). Our friends in south say Marseille high rates in poorer areas and in Arabs. St tropez Parisians who will be going home now.
considered trip down to border of Italy so our friends can come over border to see us. Travel through Germany and down Italy, have no experience of Germany or what’s needed for tolls etc.
as Work in area with stricter local downtown more risk catching in north west than aires in middle of nowhere.
any advice grateful, due to work can’t quarantine, only have 2.5 wk trip.

We got back last week.
Tunnel exactly the same as normal, only far fewer passengers.
We filled in the online declarations, nobody asked for them.
No additional checks, no questions, nothing, we weren't even asked where we had travelled from...

Travelling on eurotunnel is easier than ever as it is sooooo quiet, and they don’t want you hanging about. Germany is very easy to drive through. Just keep out of the way of the locals, who are always in a rush (like the uk)

BUT

If you CAN’T quarantine for 14 days on return, I would advise you don’t take the trip. It’s getting more and more likely that more countries will require Q14. Obviously that’s is just my opinion, but I’m not risk adverse, and am only just back myself from France and Germany. If you can risk going Q14 then consider going.

We came through the tunnel about three weeks ago and there was no contact with anyone apart from handing passports over to immigration and having gas taps checked. All very safe.
Rural France also seemed very safe.
But, you need to bear in mind that travelling against FO advice will most likely mean any travel insurance will be nul and void.
Do you feel lucky?

Richard.

The online system seems just a track and trace and more for very/air passengers so if someone tested positive in the 2 wk after return they would contact you. I wonder how much of the system actually activates contacting people. Not heard of anyone being contacted. Is this proof that quarantine not required as those going are being sensible. A reporter in paper yesterday Asked nhs England and dept health the question and no one could answer. 🤔

just watched this, totally makes sense. More testing, more cases,BUT no increase in deaths, mortality/admissions. The data speaks for itself

We haven't been contacted since return but I have received more 'no caller id' phone calls than usual, no idea if it's connected? (I don't answer 'no call id' calls).
We have needed to cancel dentist, orthodontist and optician appointments, all have now been put back several months, so things like that might be worth considering??

We’ve got E111 cards and healthy. Feel risk greater in north west U.K. than rural EU 👍

New cases: Deaths:

France 8,499 +12
UK 1,041 +6

Not 8,499 New cases in a day

France 8,499 cases for the weekend. UK 2,331 cases. So Uk at around 1000 a day, France now at 4000.
France at 67.1 cases per 100K over 14 days. UK at 22.2.

Not 8,499 New cases in a day

No that was new cases over the weekend 22nd 23rd

France reported 4,897 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours on Sunday, the highest daily level since the end of a two-month lockdown in May.

Yes 2 days but still crap for us.

Haven’t looked at the testing numbers comparison mind you . I do know testing is much increased here but no idea how number tested fairs against cases found for either country or in fact any countries !

I guess you need to compare to get a true picture be it good or bad

What about car insurance etc? Will that still be covered?

France has said that a 14 day quarantine is soon going to be imposed as a reciprocal measure with the UK. Don't know whether this will count for transit only visitors if going to Germany, etc.
As for travel insurance? The EHIC card does not cover everything and some things such as necessary repatriation, it doesn't cover. People living in France buy top-up insurance as the state system only covers certain eventualities, and it is the latter level of cover that the EHIC gives. Everyone must make their own decisions but be prepared for heavy costs if things go wrong.
If the planned route is Germany, then Switzerland, then Italy be aware that you must buy a motorway vignette in Switzerland before you enter the motorway system. Garages near motorways sell them. In Italy you pay tolls as in France.

Test & Trace service don't withhold number (daughter works for them, just been put on zero hours contract, retained in readiness for expected second wave). The fact that the number is displayed makes it easy for non-compliant people to ignore follow-up calls after they've hung up on the initial call.

We came back on the tunnel last Sunday 16th empty straight to the passport control no stopping asked at uk border if we had done the track and trace form, showed my form on the phone wasn’t really interested.
Only asked off the gas was off no check.
On the train and moving within 15mins 3 trains early as hardly no one there.

The more they test the more they will find..Which country is testing the most I wonder..BUSBY.

Trump says the US😀
But it's hard to judge, coz most countries figs are tests per 100k population and some are people tested per 100K. But the tiny country of Andorra comes top on Worldometer.
You are correct, if you test more, you get more positive results. In that case, to see if the trend is up or down, you need to look at the percentage of positives, per number of tests. Uk is running under 1% positive at the moment. France is 2-3%.
Deaths as a percentage are down, so are hospital admissions.

Figure taken from below.

Came back through the tunnel last Saturday (29th August) No checks, no questions, very smooth passage through both borders, offered a crossing 2hrs earlier than booked no extra charge.

I wouldn't go to France at the moment.

They are all full of disease.

The OP also asked about going out of the UK via the Tunnel but hasn’t got a response to this question so far, any experiences?

We went on 16th July so not really relevant I feel, was as smooth and trouble free as it usually is.

Will you stay in France for the whole trip?
Depends on quarantine rules in a couple of months time and the weather..BUSBY.
