I hate airports and being confined in an aeroplane for anything over 2 or 3 hours. But sometimes can’t be avoided.
Son, daughter in law, and grandchildren set out on Saturday to fly from Monterrey to Dallas to arrive at Heathrow 06.30 Sunday (yesterday). Ready to board plane for first leg when flight cancelled due to bad weather at Dallas (bad luck, 600 flights cancelled). They managed to get re booked by American Airlines via New York 20 hours later. Got back to airport yesterday and flew to New York, with 4 hour layover before onward journey to LHR. Landed at 07.15 this morning to find that ALL of their baggage is still in New York! Got to pick them up at Peterborough station when I get the call. Should have nearly been there by now but, due to faffing about re bags, still in London.
We are due to leave here tomorrow morning to drive up to Scotland for daughters wedding on Thursday so BA now trying to get bags forwarded ASAP, to here (Spalding) or Scotland. All wedding plans have been centred around them getting from Mexico, originally allowing today as being a rest day for them.
Don’t get this hassle when travelling with motorhome.

We travelled by BA to Stockholm for my nephews wedding. The bags did not travel with us !!
We were there 3 days before wedding but they still didn’t turn up.
We went to the wedding in a mixture of our travelling clothes and borrowed clothes :(

When Martin used to travel a lot for work his bags were often home before him.

The most expensive pairs of undoes and socks he ever owned were bought in airports using insurance money. They weren't even good quality.

I just use easyjet to come home for 4 days work before flying straight back out to the european airport of choice whilst leaving the wife out there with the motorhome.
No trouble with baggage as only have keys, passport and a wallet with me.

We leave the MH and fly back and forth as a couple on cheapie airlines, but since all clothes are in MH we just take hand luggage with some washing to do at home.

That does cut down on some airport hassle - no check-in, straight to gate for gate time , no waiting to collect baggage and no lost baggage. Still have the pain of airport security. I reckon it cuts 1 1/2 hours off time needed for the door-to-door times.

I finish nights at 0630 (allegedly) and catch the 0800 flights to Geneva and Nice this year. Book up 6 months in advance and it is £50 return and a £12.50 train both ways. I cant get over the channel and back for that sort of money and might not even make it one way, never mind the diesel and time. Makes so much sense for me, as i work 2 days 2 nights 4 days off so 4 days leave gives me 12 days away and 3 or 4 hours after finishing work I could be at Lac Leman or the riviera.

That sounds a right nightmare, hope they gets some compensation athoughmoney doesn't replace the lost time & hassle.

Last time we came back from Thailand one of my cases got left behind, Emitrates delivered it to my doorstep at 9am the next morning.
Dropping wife of at Gatwick next Sunday she is visiting daughter in Thailand (new grandchild) 5 weeks of peace & quiet for me and no nagging. :D

Story of opposite of quick delivery.

When I worked for BA we often had crew taxis from B'ham to LHR and the same taxi company had the contract to deliver lost baggage to homes.

The boss decided that if he kept some in his garage and delivered several to one area 3 days later he could charge 3 times for one trip.

Eventually caught out and prosecuted - can't remember the sentence. Silly man.

that's ok until, you get stopped leaving until" everyone has there bags" & then everyone is interrogated before you can get out. Happened to us twice at Bristol. To say I wasn't happy would be an understatement.

I used to fly a lot when I was working, and learnt through bitter experience never to check a bag.
