February 2013.
I’m in Portugal and with the present Covid situation I can’t get it back to uk myself as I am isolating and waiting to have minor surgery.
I found a company that will take the Motorhome from Portugal to Grimsby via a roll on roll off ship. All seemed good till I gave the dimensions as they were to arrange to take it via trailer to Peterborough. However, as luck will have he’s told me the van is too big for the trailer!

I’m hoping someone might suggest a company that can get the van from Grimsby docks to Peterborough. If anyone has any ideas I will be very grateful

I believe you are not the first Funster who needed this kind of service just recently, might be worth doing a search on here to help in making the right decision. Good luck.

The next sailing ex Setubal is Friday the 18th of September. This vessel is arriving Grimsby Wednesday the 23rd

Sorry to hear of you dilemma. The size weight and insurance status might help?. ie would a driver be covered to move it?. I am just the other side of the Humber, But my wife is in your situation Ie waiting for surgery, so we are somewhat in limbo too. Have you looked at Grimsby based Hauliers. there is also a Company based just outside of Hull who transport a lot a of Motorhomes (even for Autotrail I think, who are Grimsby based?.) This is some local ones on the north bank.? <Broken link removed>

Thanks for that will try some of the locals. Hope your wife is well too

You might’ve been cheaper flying someone out and letting them have the fun of driving back.
How big is your van? Maybe a funster doing nothing would help out. I would’ve had the van being going north. Fingers crossed you get sorted.

Trigano Tribute dimension
Length 6.95m
Width. 2.27m
Height. 2.94m
Weight. 3500 Kg

Grimsby to Peterborough shouldnt be too difficult (hopefully), have you tried advertising the job for free on Shiply? Try two adverts, one from Grimsby and one from Portugal? If nothing else it will give you an idea of likely cost, then see if any Funster is prepared to do it for a similar amount?

On time have vehicles that can transport your vehicle. It may be worth contacting your insurance company and asking who they use for repartition

I think Tanya_and_Mick had their RV picked up in Spain and taken back to the U.K. having sold it, they may be able to share the transport operator details if they see this.

Wow, we could be out there 2mor. Two flights from Edinburgh £30, thats cheap!
yes, but you do realise you wont be able to enjoy the long drive back to the UK because you will be working ...

We dont have time to go out and back as mums just got herself a new house so need to be around to oversee the paperwork and house move but we could spare time for an all expenses paid 2 week trip back if it happened VERY soon, Might be cheaper than freight but ive no idea.

Hi - appreciate your predicament - as gus-lopez has kindly mentioned - we were in a similar position when our van got stranded at Alicante.

We searched around and investigated various options including a weekly ro-ro ship from near Valencia to Avonmouth, which is very close to where we live.

However, in the end we settled for a door-to-door service on a transporter with a Lincoln-based company - S G Haulage Ltd

https://www.sghaulageltd.co.uk/

They were extremely professional and took good care of our van. They picked it up from a storage garage in Alicante late on a Thursday evening and it was delivered to us at our house at lunchtime the following Monday. The company had used Brittany Ferries Santander to Portsmouth route.

They are able to handle any size vehicle and move motors to and from Europe on a regular basis. It was not cheap, but having shopped around we thought they were excellent value. We paid £1,950 + vat. (The quotes we received from a couple of smaller companies were as much as 50% higher)

We kept our insurer advised about what was happening and they were fine.

By the way, our van is 6.4 metres and 3,500kg, but as said, they can handle any size and I reckon yours would be fine on the back of the same type of trailer as mine.

Thank you to all who replied. I had to go to hospital this morning and must have surgery tomorrow. I will have to put everything on hold now
Hope all goes well with your op!

And it won't be too long before you can be back on the road... (y)
