Still getting there.
Is it me? Or have overnight stops become a bit expensive these days. I know it's all about supply & demand but I'm hearing stories of pubs charging up to £30 a night to stay on their car parks. £40 a night at many campsites with minimal facilities is becoming commonplace. Ironically, CMCC sites are starting to look like a bargain by comparison....thank god I'm a member.....Just how far will this price rising be pushed I wonder?.

Just had 3 nights in Dorset on a CS £17 a night, this week 3 nights in West Sussex £8 a night. Just have to look for the price, we go away every week or 2 on the summer, couldn't afford it at £30 a night.

I think we hear the headline cases, li Tan Hill Inn. I am pretty sure they are in the minority

just off two nights at a pub that has a small campsite with electrics for £14 / night

sadly the pub is still closed till next week 🙁 but great location for walking in the Yorkshire Dales

the pubs that offer free stops are sadly learning the hard way that some will stay and not even buy a beer. Even heard reports of users having a BBQ on the car park having not paid to stay 😳

I think more places are charging but mostly still a fair price from what I find

I don’t have a problem with pubs charging a fee if they knock it off the bar bill. That way the ones that don’t use the pub are giving something back to the landlord. I must admit that not using the pub is beyond me though. We tend to eat out just about every evening when away.

My sentiments exactly Glenn. Why would anyone park up at the premises, and not use the pub?

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Just back from a three week run around Yorkshire and Cumbria. Stayed on a mixture of campsites and wild ( 7 camp 14 wild). Never paid more than £25 a night and the £25 were CAMC sites. Only stayed on these to have access to the washing machines. It still is possible at this time of year to get away at a reasonable price. Would not like to guess the prices for Cornwall during the 6 weeks school hols but as many have said supply and demand. Some will pay as its the school holidays and they have accepted the peak prices. Those who can pick and choose still have the options

And when they are empty they will probably be sold for building, and so will be even less sites and prices at the ones left will rise even more. :(
That could be the long term trend despite rising new MH sales (up 150% this year apparently). Follow the money.

Or meanwhile the site owners will replace more touring pitches with statics or lodges. That's where the big money is, with juicy profit margins and tricksy contracts. Until the site becomes another housing development - Councils generally prefer residential above leisure use so happily nod that through.

Just back(by air) from driving from Poland, theough Slowakia, Austria, Italy, mainland Greece to a Greek island for 3 week stay.

Total campsite bill €0

The island has no campsite.

I am now paying €3.30 pd for parking with EHU in a boatyard.

From the figures quoted above it seems that the average price is about £20pn. If we had paid that on our 5 week trip it would have come to exactly half of what we spent on the whole trip, including diesel and eating out with plenty of wine nearly every day(ferry/flight fares not included)

Geoff

Just had 2 nights on a CAMC site for £28 all in so if people are daft enough to pay 30 or 40 quid for a car park then there's something quite wrong
The trouble is Paul that these people who can afford to pay those ridiculous prices, will continue to do so without thought of what it is doing to the rest of us. :(

We have to just enjoy it as a hobby whilst we can.

I am paying what i am because i know no different🤷‍♂️ as i suspect a lot of the new people to this line of leisure are.
You may be right.

Maybe one of Funsters aids to newbies could be a thread just simple stating SITE COSTS of where they stay??

No chatter just list of prices, type of set up, and the areas so that we can support those sites that support motorhomers.... and the expensive ones that offer no extra benefits can also be seen??

Just looked out Moreton-in-Marsh club site……kids holiday weeks, over £36 a night.

Quackers site at Woodside Field is unbelievably reasonable at 12 nicker a night for 3 or 4 acres of total and utter peace and Q. By tomorrow morning it will be the first site in memory that I have returned to in the UK.

I think you can find it here https://www.woodsidefield.co.uk/

CMC which has lower pitch fees outside peak season does have other cheaper sites. Moreton-in Marsh is usually booked solid in peak season but having been there once I don't really understand why it is so popular.

I think prices have gone up recently, we used to find many CS's at about £7-9 a night but most now about £14-19 a night. Our favourite site still only £8 a night, basic but woodland walkk with dear and good view from the pitch. It's a long walk for water and the Elsan but I don't mind that, and 3 nights away for £24 plus some fuel is very good for my Yorkshire soul 😄😄

For the last couple of years I have kept a spreadsheet with all the sites, prices and other information. It started as Jim' s year book, but I switched to a spreadsheet after never having the book where I wanted it. I would be happy to put the spreadsheet on a site price thread, as long as many others do the same. It could then become a great resource for us all.

We paid £18 a night at a CL last week. It's a basic farm site with EHU but no showers etc. We use it because it is in the right location for us and the owners are brilliant and have become friends.

We also use sites that are a lot cheaper and free "aires" - and some that are more expensive :)

A lot see motorhomes as an easy target I've seen some where they charge more for a Motorhome than a car+caravan+huge awning.

Like I've said many time times we may have a decent van that was paid for out of hard earned savings we still have to live off our pensions and no way can we afford these silly prices when doing 120 plus nights away each year.
We would like to do more of England but it's far cheaper to hop over the channel.

Yes, that would be my first submission too. :)

Is anyone happy to start the thread, or does Jim have to start the full time threads? Anyone know please?

We have plenty of long term wilders, some of them are Funsters. who take just one night with us, you know they only want to dump and fill. Mostly this is mid-week, so not bothered in the slightest.

They pay a tenner for the night and often leave very early to bag their wild spot before anyone else claims it.

We are not often in UK, but just for interest and for other members information, do you offer something like a 2 hour, or so, stop just to use services, no pitch occupation involved.

We have found private site owners willing to do this as extra income.

Of course anyone offering that service has to cover the costa of water and sewage disposal plus a profit.

If so what charge?

Geoff
