Anybody able to give any information on crossing the border from Germany to Switzerland . currently in Düsseldorf and working our way down but Germans last night told us meat will be confiscated and all motorhomes checked not like uk to France . Don’t want the dog food confiscated as only for enough for the trip - any experience of the border would be useful thanks

Are the borders between the two countries manned? Been a couple of years since we went through, but don’t recall being stopped. Same when we did Italy into Switzerland.

I’m sure someone with more recent experience will be along soon. (y)

Generally the only thing the Swiss are interested in is selling you a vignette. I've crossed many times but only in a car.

We crossed over couple of weeks ago into Swiss from Germany at Rheinfelden border guards were there but no control. Parked in Liechtenstein for 1 night nobody at border. Drove up Umbrail pass Swiss to Stelvio pass Italy nobody at border. We had the vignette for 2022 we bought at Gondo border in March when we went via the Simplon pass on our way to France though Vallorbe border no control anywhere.

All main border points will be manned, smaller ones not.

The point your German friends are referring to is the 1kg of meat you are allowed to bring in here to CH:

Trust me as i shop twice a month over the border and play this game each time, they will take anything above 1kg but they have to find it first:giggle: no idea how the 6kgs of silverside ended up in our freezer from our last UK trip…

This only relates to meat for human consumption, no worries about animal feeds.

Very similar to our experiences. (y)

We went through several times. First time treated to a dressing down by the Gestapo with a German Shepard for not having the vignette.

Second time on a quiet back road, waved through.

Third time 2020, en-route to Italy. Not stoped.

Only problem I had crossing from Germany was finding a border guard to buy a vignette only to be advised that the Swiss border post would be a better bet. Had to go a find someone there as well and got someone on first day of work who had to go to find somebody else

I crossed France to Switzerland and Switzerland to Germany a few weeks ago. France to Switzerland wasn't even manned, Switzerland to Germany was but no one was being stopped at all, drive straight through.

I've crossed from Germany into Switzerland before and always just driven straight in.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. Just don't forget to get the necessary vignette - it's a pain at the border, easiest way by far is use the Swiss Via app.

No sign of anyone when we crossed from the Lake Konstanz area a couple of years back.

Crossed yesterday and a very cheery lady sold me a Vignette for £35.58 or 40 Swiss Francs, sadly none of the lovely young men searched me nor the van. The border was busy with long queues in 3 lanes. I didn’t see anyone get searched even in the faster lane for people with Vignettes.

Daughter lives in Geneva so we go frequently. As someone else said the only thing they are interested in is selling you the vignette. No-one has ever stopped us for any other reason and they hardly ever stop anyone. You are more likely to be stopped if you are driving a large 4x4 with Swiss registration and coming back from a French supermarket close to the border.

Thanks that’s really helpful

A couple of weeks in our van ago we crossed the Swiss border, just the vignette that we had to leave the van and get from the office. No control at all. My son inlaw drives to Germany and loads up with beer but not meat.
He bought some beef in the Co-op very nice and lean but it was 100 francs a Kilo !!!!!! So I can see why they impose an import control for meat.

Crossed into Switzerland in June from Italy at mustair, they never went near the moho, just took my €20 odd for the 7 day pass job done, didn’t even know you couldn’t take owt in there🤷‍♂️🤭🤭

Thanks all - got over the border no problem , no checks other than making sure we had bought the correct vignette , and not even a passport check !

The trick now is don’t stop to buy anything until to reach France or Italy 😆
