quick question about Germany.

Where do you lot go shopping?

Im clearly a shop snob. At home we go to Waitrose, or M&S. I may be dragged in Sainsbury’s but I am likely to have a tantrum there.

But in Germany we both really struggle. We absolutely HATE Lidl and Aldi. They are like some weird sort of boot sale come trade Cash & Carry.

What is Germany’s decent supermarket?

In France we are good plenty of big supermarkets to pick from and stay away from the two crappy German ones. Easy.

Ps I’m not interested in people telling me how good Aldi and Lidl are, they aren’t they are discount shops, full of odd products and zero room to move round.

Quite a different mindset in Germany, Quality is key, family and relaxation comes top of the list as regards important issues. Shopping for the sake of it a none starter.
In and out effectively as possible is the name of the game.
Watch out at closing time, do not stand in the way of staff, or there cycles!

There are several, can’t think of names at the moment and it also depends on how big the town is, there is also super markets that only sell drink from bottles to barrels (these are very large)

you are rich, say no more,i go were the music takes me, ok.pj. the' nuts' are the same in aldi

Real and Metro are the main stay of DE supermarkets, the big boys. Edeka is more low end, similar to Lidl and both Aldi's (Aldi Sud and Aldi). DM is pretty good for health foods and cosmetics, i usually get my lunch there and fill up for the week to keep me going although i get my fruit at Lidl.

I often get breakfast at Metro as i did most of this week (hotel breakfasts are way too expensive) so the Café is pretty decent there.

Some of the hyper sized Metro and Real and worth a visit just for the experience, often there's some funky layout or selling styles.

Good info. Thanks. Don’t think I noticed any of them on our trip but will hunt them out next time.

Always Lidl but I do like edeka if you are looking for the more common essentials you would buy back in uk

Hi.
I am guided by my Taste buds. I am sure fellow lorry drivers on here will tell you, when loading from Canneries,biscuit/cake,food preparation factories,.... LOTS of labels appear on LOTS of products from the loading bay. When we thought of keeping a pub years ago,a landlord mate said. " Charge the B****r****ds,the more they pay,the better they think it is....... So i don't care where it comes from,or what label it has on it.... Taste is king.
Tea Bag aka Fortnum and Mason ? ....... NAH !!

What the hell is all that tat in the middle of these places about?

its like a charity shop. Toilet seats, paddling pools, chocolate tools. But no butcher or fish monger. WTF
This will answer your question.

I dont do shopping usually, thats swmbos job. I do have to regularly go to Lidl for her cottage cheese as the quality is much better than Sains or Tesco. Also mini bockwurst which I like for breakfast as no one else seems to sell them.

Ka de we in Berlin, department store, I've never seen so many floors or a store so vast.
You need a mortgage to buy a bun though.

We went to the toy section for something for the grandkids, there was a lovely Barbie table football reduced to 20000 euros, yes twenty thousand. I still have the photo somewhere.
