Remember I have the technical knowledge of a drunk newt.

Is lead acud batteries the same as gel batteries, I suspect they are different.

Pro/cons?

What do you need to know Dave?

Lead/acid cheaper and well tested type that will give 4 years of service, but only discharge down to 50%
Lead/gel much more expensive but last longer and can be discharged lower than 50%

Gels need a different charging regime to lead /acid but most chargers will have the setting. Not using this setting will reduce the life of a gel battery

For now, lead/acid is the most cost effective way to power motorhomes. Lithium is massively expensive still, but when prices drop will be a game changer

The problems with cheaper Lithium batteries is that every body and their mother is now using Lithium batteries and there's very little of it left and most of it seems to be in China at the moment.

My electroblok charger only has a choice of wet or AGM charging. Can I not fit Gell batteries then?

Gel need a different and more expensive charging system, I found out when I nearly bought very expansive gel in Norway. Lenny HB is your man.

It's in the name Dave.
GEL has the electrolyte suspended in a gelly substance.
Lead acid is obviously a liquid.

I've only seen EBL's with Gel/Wet cell or Gel/AGM.
If it is as you say I would say no, the AGM setting will charge to 14.7v too high for Gels and the Wet setting the absorbtion phase may not be long enough to fully charge a Gel.

What model EBL is it?

Blei-Gel is their term for what we call Gel. Literally Lead-Gel. Standard flooded lead-acid is Blei-saure.

If there's no suitable setting, one option is to disable the built-in charger (pull the 'Internes Lademodul' fuse), and feed another charger into the auxiliary charger 2-way connector (labelled Zusatz Ladegerat). You'll need to fit a fuse into the similarly labelled fuse slot to enable it.

The downside is, you lose the starter battery charging when on EHU.
