We have a Ducato Tribute (2005). The gear knob came off broken and we've been looking to replace it - but now the gear stick comes out of the base when we try to reverse, and slips into 1st sometimes and vice versa. Can we sort this ourselves or is this a serious mechanical problem and needs to go to a garage????

Never studied the lever assembly but it sounds like the knob holds the actual lever down into the gate plate in the dash via a rod down the center of the gear lever.
I assume you push the lever down to select reverse.
A new knob may sort the problem otherwise it may mean a complete gear lever assembly including the dashboard plate. .

Thanks for the reply. Yes maybe a new knob will fix it. For the record though you pull the lever up to put it into reverse.
