Just had my first visit to France with new gaslow system fitted tried two different refill locations gas leaking and creating ice when try to fill luckily at second location French lady loaned me her adaptor which I successfully used.Contacted gaslow about this and was told to cut circle disc from plastic milk bootle put hole in centre and this should solve problem. In my option not a very safe or satisfactory answer when you consider cost of system.

😱doesn't sound right to me.

I find after screwing the adapter on you need to put the gas nozzle on so the weight of it keeps the adapter tight. If you put it on in the "nine o'clock" position the weight of it is likely to unscrew the adaptor enough to get a leak.

But if it worked with someone else's adapter it sounds as if the seal might have gone AWOL on yours.

The fill rate in France is a lot faster than other countries and thus tends to realise product between the adapter and connection .I have had similar issue and no issues any where else.

I don't think the gas pressure is very high, so the seal only needs to fill all gaps.

I found that major oil company retail forecourts often have a box of fittings and staff will sometimes do it for you however you're unlikely to get this service at a supermarket.

You will need an adapter for France and a completely different adapter for Spain.

I had the same problem with an official Safefill adapter in France. Tried 3 different stations. Gas escaping everywhere. Gave up in the end. Seems the French system just isn't very secure.

this should solve problem
Hi.
IF... The gas is escaping as it is.... The Milk bottle disc..Whatever...This could be a " Non technical back up.. Get you out of a hole tried and tested method ".Worth a punt if you are stuck. As said in other posts, most garages carry adapters that they will loan you while you fill. As regards getting it in writing...... Who is going to hold their hand up and do it.......... ? They don't know you,you could be CEO of British Gas.

With respect, the French system seems very secure to me. But I couldn't speak for any particular adapter.

Allô Allô what happened there?

What I mean is, with the French system I don't see how you could partially fit the hose leaving it not properly sealed. It's on or it's not. But the adapter is a different matter, since it screws in and a number of things could go wrong with that (and have with me). For example, it could be incorrectly screwed in, the washer could be faulty or damaged, or as mentioned the angle of the weight of the hose could drag the adapter open. I have used many LPG/GPL stations in France over the years and never had a problem once I got the knack of fitting the adapter well. And the reason why I am insistent about that is not because I am argumentative (who, me?) but because if it is the adapter that is faulty, that would really speak for replacing it tout de suite.

The leak was between the adapter and the hose, not between the adapter and the bottle. It probably didn't help that it was a Safefill bottle, so you're worried that they'll press the stop button anyway as you're clearly filling a bottle and don't have time to get it all seated correctly.

So your adapter didn't work but hers did?

I don't know Safefill but I have never had a problem with being allowed to fill my Gaslow in France, and in the case of Gaslow it conforms to European standard R67, which means that technically it is not a bottle but a tank. Not that I have ever tried to argue that with a French attendant! I am sure that some attendants will tell you that you can't so find another one. If nowhere else, on the autoroutes every second station should have LPG.

Something isn't right. I have filled up many times in France without problem. The dish adapter seems pretty reliable as long as it doesn't unscrew.
That's what I am trying to say. Something isn't right. Be careful. And keep your eyes well away (I always close my eyes at the moment of attaching or detaching the hose).

I believe the pump pressure can be twice that of a full cylinder at rest i.e. about 200 psi.

I have gas flow bottles in my camper I live in Dorset
I went to my nearest garage to fill up
only to be told they no longer suppling gas
went to another garage which still supplied gas
worryingly the attendant was not sure they were going to continue
because of the cost

get some ptfe tape and run a few turns around the threads to form a washer it sounds like the oring is missing from yours if you have other adaptors see if there is a o ring on them

Have a look back at old threads.
Shell are pulling out of the gas market in fuel stations
You will need to download an app to tell you which stations still stock LPG as the list is getting smaller by the day

Meanwhile, Dacia are now selling LPG cars. Along with some factory imports from Ford.

I don’t understand why we don’t have more factory LPG cars in the UK.
