No they can’t.

No. Bottles and tanks must be used in the specific orientation for which they are designed. It would be extremely dangerous to use a vertical cylinder in a horizontal orientation. There are multiple serious risks. There is the possibility of taking off liquid on the outlet, the pressure relief valve may be defeated, and the 80% refill valve will malfunction.

Definitely not
The vast majority of gas cylinders are designed for vapour take off , the only time you will see a specialist type of cylinder on its side is an FLT cylinder designed for liquid take off to run a fork lift engine .

I agree, definitely not. However if you have a space that would fit a horizontal cylinder, you can get a cylinder-sized tank designed for horizontal mounting that will do the job.

Or if you've the funds, and the right configuration chassis, and currently also the patience to wait for a fitting, an under slung tank might work, this also frees up a locker, but at a cost.
