Our recently bought 2012 van came with a small butane gas bottle with this lump attached fitted directly (by hose) to the on-board regulator. It looks a pretty ancient piece of equipment that I presume the dealer fitted then checked the van's appliances with it and left it attached. I discovered the ruptured/perished seal when I fitted quick releases to allow faster changeovers and accommodate English and French bottles.
