I have used Garmin SatNavs for many years and I currently use a Camper 760.
I noiced recently it had an app called Samsrtphone link so I downloaded it and linked the phone to the SatNav but can't see what it gives it other that I can see my favourites on my phone. This isn't a big deal as I only have two.
What do others get from this app?

Too soon for me to know. Ive just bought one and updating the maps at the moment. Livetrack looks interesting. I like the live traffic feature too, its on the 2nd page.

I don't have one but I believe one of the features is that it allows realtime traffic updates to your route (as long as your phone is connected to the internet) whereas without the app the unit gets traffic updates from FM radio which is not as consistent and may not be available everywhere.
I think other features include being able to find a point of interest on google maps and sending that location to your navigation device something a passenger could do whilst you continue driving perhaps.

Aaaah so that's why I was receiving delays on my sat nav yesterday.(y)

I tried it with my camper 760, didn't think it was worth the trouble.

Traffic reports completely out of date/time and things popping up on screen that were no help at all.

The main benefit or me is that you simply send contact details from your phone of the place/person you want to navigate to straight to the sat nav, count be easier.

Yes that's a good feature, but I always work my own routes out, and download them to the unit.

Never or rarely follow the satnav routes.

Thank you all, I thought I was missing something. It seem of little (well actually No) use to me. I don't keep MH locations on my phone they are all POIs already on the SatNav. As for routes I use the SatNav thats why I bought it! When in the MH we have two (his and hers) SatNavs and make a decide which to follow at the time.

Your Garmin does give two or sometimes three different routes when you input a destination. At least my 770 does

Yes it can produce three routes the fastest, the shortest and the most economical. The last one is based on the MPG entered for urban, rural and motorways entered. In my the case the third one doesn't come up as motorway driving is both the fastest and most economical. The shortest route can be "interesting" but uses roads not suitable for the MH so I have the SatNav default to the fastest route.
Generally when the two SatNavs differ we take the most major road. IE we need a good reason to leave a nice dual carriageway so we sail past the turning one of them is telling us to take.

How do you do that? And I can't figure out how to get the distance remaining showing on the map page. Info appreciated.

You can pre-plan routes using Garmin BaseCamp (PC or Mac) and then load these to the sat nav.

Bottom right of the screen when route displayed tap the screen to the left of the 3 bars and select what you want to be displayed in that tab-
  • arrival time
  • arrive in
  • destination distance
  • etc (there's about a dozen different options)

Cheers Grant but how many can you have showing on the screen. I’d like to see...the time, the arrival time and how many miles still to travel.
Can’t seem to get all 3 showing.

I use Mapsource for creating routes, Basecamp is also available, both free from Garmin.

You can change what you see on the map page by touching the little 'Icons' in the bottom corner of the screen, (I currently have time of arrival in one and speed in the other) you should then get a list of choices to change to.

Hi Sandra
Just taken ours off the windscreen and as far as I can see you can only get one one option showing at a time. Know what you mean though as the inbuilt sat nav in our car displays miles to destination, arrival time and time to destination in one tab.

This has just gone down on my estimation . There must be some option somewhere surely.

If you do find it let me know (pretty please!) however I, generally, only use Arrival Time.

Aaah haa. I’ve got it, :). Good old YouTube to the rescue. @Gellyneck

I think yours must be different, the three routes you mention are arrived on the 770 by which type of route you tell the device to plan. However whatever type of route is selected it will still give up to three alternative routes, these are simply different routes with different times/distances, not different types of route as in fastest, shortest etc.
